iPod 2.1: Spankin' fresh and Jailbroken, plus countermeasures news
We have pwnage. Before you get too excited, we're talking just iPod touch -- the update that's been around since Tuesday afternoon -- not for iPhone 2.1, released this morning. That having been said, point your browser over to quickpwn.com to grab the latest version of the iPod QuickPwn.
Now there is good news, and there is bad news, about jailbreak and iTunes 8. The bad news is that Apple has taken countermeasures against custom ipsw firmware bundles. The good news is that the iPhone devteam folks are working on patches for each of the device types in addition to the touch.
Hop over to the devteam blog to keep abreast of the latest news.

k thx bai
I downloaded the jailbreak, but I can only find a QuickPwn.exe! Is there a version out for Mac yet?

September 12 2008 at 2:01 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis isn't official quickpwn, but I did it with my iPod (worst case, I just have to restore. Oh well) and it works great. I'm running 2.1, have cydia and installer. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I know not what "horror stories" you speak of. We started with iPhone 1.0.x and updated to 1.1.x then to 2.0.x. Never had a problem.
quickpwn.com is not the official site - winpwn.com is. This appears to be an unofficial hack, which may or may not actually work.
I can't begin to fathom the mind that thinks any jailbreak is more "official" than another. That's just retarded.
September 12 2008 at 9:28 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOK, TUAW, you got me. I read 2.1 jailbroken, and got all excited. But I guess it's a very good sign that they've got the iPod done so quickly. I can wait.

Is it done yet? ;-)
I mostly need tethering, but video is nice too.
I've heard WAY too many horror stories about jailbreaking nightmares. Even if the forthcoming iPhone pwnage tool doesn't brick the phone, the concensus seems to be that it becomes much less stable. Although I would LOVE video recording capabilities (and really little else jailbreaking would bring), I'm not willing to put up with the inconveniences jailbreaking would bring. Good luck to all of you who decide to brave those waters, though.
