Two Canadian Apple Stores set to open
Rejoice, Apple-loving Canadians. Apple will open two new retail stores this weekend. One in Calgary, Alberta and the other in Toronto, Ontario. Apple Store Market Mall will be the 2nd store in Alberta when it opens at 9:30 AM on Saturday, 27th. It's located between 32nd Avenue NW and 40th Avenue NW on the West side of Shaganappi Trail NW. You can find full travel directions here.
At the same time, Apple Store Fairview will open in Toronto at 1800 Sheppard Avenue East. Here are your travel directions. These will be the 8th and 9th stores to open in Canada. If you visit either location, please share your stories and photos. Have fun!
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I'd like to know what the heck Apple has against Vancouver? Third largest metropolitan are in the country, massive tech use, home base to several high profile tech and game companies, Hollywood north, etc. etc.
Yet we had to wait until *after* Ottawa had a couple of stores? And Montreal? And when it opens it's smaller than the smallest radio shack in a backwater part of a cheesy old 1970's era Mall. Now Alberta, where everyone loves technology about as much as Sarah Palin loves Hippies will have two huge stores?
It just boggles the mind.

Jeremy, calm down buddy vancouver is just to close to Redmond for Apple's tastes. Maybe you could trick them and suggest a store in Richmond.

It just makes shopping in places like Lynnwood quite an awesome experience with our Canadian coin near at par again :) Bigger stores down there and lower prices and taxes.

Would be nice if they opened some stores in cities that didn't already have stores. Are you listening Apple? I don't care for the 3.5 hour drive to get to the closest Apple store.

Hunh? Ottawa?
We're still waiting to get one. The wait is killing me it's our nations capital and we still don't have a stupid apple store. You should be lucky to have one in the first place.
Sorry i'm a tad bitter :)

Being from Ottawa but now living in Toronto, I can understand why it may not be a priority. Apple places stores in areas of high population density and seems to put stores in places that could be seen as "hip" and attractive. Toronto is the biggest city in the country and home to a large population of creative types. Make sense. Montreal is hip and culturally interesting. Vancouver is a nice, growing city. Ottawa is mostly government types (although there is a lot of high tech) and has a smaller, less dense population. Not to mention that aside from the parliament buildings and such, there isn't a whole lot to see. Perhaps I'm wrong though. That's just been my impression.

Do your geography. Ottawa is Canada's FOURTH largest municipality with a metropolitan population estimated at 1,190,982. Ottawa is also the second largest city in the province of Ontario.
Ottawa is bigger than Calgary and Edmonton (both of which have Apple stores).
I don't know why Apple has not opened an Apple Store in Ottawa. It makes sense especially considering the Federal Government is located in Ottawa and the big school boards there.
One day Apple will wake up and realize its mistake.

I agree with Jeremy. You can't walk into the Apple store in Vancouver and expect to accomplish anything. Every computer and iPod has someone in front of it. The Genius Bar is booked solid for weeks, and every one of the 15+ Apple reps is helping someone.
And the store is TINY and FULL of people.
So much for the "Come in and play, chill, hip atmosphere." the Apple Stores are supposed to have.
We want a REAL Apple store in Vancouver! One that's open later than 7:00 mall closing time.

Because Toronto obviously needed another Apple Store. Whatever happened to the rest of Canada, eh?

There is a second Apple Store opening in Oakridge Centre [Vancouver]. Summer 09' is what I have been told by a a bud at the Mall corporate headquarters. Just passing on what I heard in a conversation. Hopefully it's true.

Fairview mall is a dump surrounded by low income housing \ apartment blocks, what was Apple thinking? Scarborough, Pickering or Oshawa would have been much better choices, and would have filled a need in the East End.

@Jeremy: What makes you think Vancouver should get a second store before all of Alberta even has one? Calgary is the second largest metropolitan area in all of Canada, and is also one of the richest cities. The University of Calgary is a large university in Canada, and the Apple store is going in just down the block from it. Somehow, I think that might be more than a coincidence.
@everyone wanting an Ottawa store: There are three
Apple stores in Toronto. Drive to one of those. The Apple store in Edmonton only opened less than a month ago, and before that we would have to drive to Vancouver for the nearest Apple store.
Be patient, I'm sure a store will go in there eventually, but Apple has their eyes set on areas that actually need the stores.

A second store in Vancouver before a fort in Ottawa?!
Ottawa is the fourth largest city in Canada, and as far is I know, it might be the only city in North America with a population over 1.5 million that doesn't have an Apple store. It is the Nation's capital and therefore "where the government be at". The University of Ottawa has a population of over 35 000 in 2008 and is in the top 3 largest in Canada: Apple sells their highest percentage of notebooks and probably iPods to students. There is also Carelton University and several colleges.
And with today's gas prices, driving to the nearest Apple Store is a waste of time and polutes the environment.
Find me a Canadian city that is better suited than mine to get the next Canadian Apple Store.
Yeah, I thought so... IMPOSSIBLE.
