New Get a Mac Ads: Bean Counter and V Word

With all of the political mudslinging going around this time of year, Apple has decided to add a different type of mudslinging to the barrage of TV commercials. Tonight, they released two new "Get a Mac" ads: Bean Counter, and V Word.

In Bean Counter [direct video link], PC is sitting at a desk, counting money out into two stacks. The largest stack is for advertising and the smaller stack is for bug fixes for Vista. When Mac questions him, he says that he's having to take drastic action because of the frustration of Vista users. In the end, PC gives up budgeting and puts all of his money into advertising. This commercial is no doubt in response to Microsoft's recent advertising strategies. In V Word [direct video link], PC makes every attempt to "beep out" the word "Vista" in the ad.

Sure, these commercials are well thought out and somewhat funny; but is Apple's mudslinging getting a little old? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below, and don't forget to take part in our poll. You can watch the new commercials by visiting the Apple website.

Thanks for the tip, Tony!

I don't get why your links to the videos aren't iphone friendly. It comes up with "video not supported" or some such message. Also the comments section itself throws off the intended screen width/font size for the articles when viewing from i.tuaw.com.

It's getting a bit old. It's as if Macs have no merit of their own that they have to resort to bashing PCs. I find them very arrogant.

I gotta admit though, they are entertaining.

Yeah, they are getting tired. These two weren't bad though.

As for mean spirited, it's hard not to be when MS seems to be trying to kick themselves while lying down, after punching themselves in the n**sack.

I mean, I have NO idea how anyone could think those MS ads were a good idea. Taking a product with a significantly smaller marketshare (Apple) and giving it mindshare in your own ads is just the definition of stupid.
First the has been comic ad (Gates was funnier than the has been) to try to be hip or something and then a serious copy of the sarcastic GetaMac ads.

Their attitude to their own OS is also just sad. Me2 (or Vista, as it's formally known) is a failure, both technically and in the minds of their clients.
Trying to change that with ridiculous ads won't work. What's more, if an ad campaign like that fail it is likely to reinforce negative links to the company.
That is, move negative links from the product to the company.
Not something most companies want. Sending out PR fluff ads when the company stands in a hailstorm of bad publicity due to problems with your main product is no way for sensible people to act. Unfortunately, large companies often lose their common sense to beaurocracy and committees.

I hope the next windows will be good, I hope Linux keeps improving and getting nicer and nicer, and I hope Apple keeps up their good work. All these OSs contribute to the comuter user experience as a whole and force each other to keep evolving the products.

In baseball, there was a long-standing unwritten rule that once you led by 5 or 6 runs, you stopped playing aggressively. You'd steal fewer bases, you'd take extra bases less often, and you'd show less emotion when something good happened for you. In the 1980s and 1990s, now the steroid era, when everyone was hitting home runs more frequently than ever before, this unwritten rule mostly went away. One manager said, "I'll stop stealing bases when they stop hitting home runs."

I'm sure Apple will stop running these ads when Microsoft stops taking advantage of its dominant market position.

Now there's a solution. I think you're on to the solution of this pointless bickering.

You say "dominant market position" like it's a bad thing.

Did any of you rabid fanboys ever consider the possibility that Apple could increase its role in the marketplace, if they would offer an OS X for non-Apple Intel boxes?

In doing that, Apple could sell OS X to non-Apple Intel boxes in a Standard version. Then, for people who want additional functionality, they could continue to sell OS X on Apple Intel boxes in a Premium or Professional version.

Why would that be a bad thing? Tell me, why?

Personally, I would buy a minimum of two copies of OS X to run on my Dell and Gateway computers. On top of that, I would order 1000 copies for my office - immediately...

Lastly, when is an Intel PC not a PC? When it is made by Apple, contains a personality chip and runs OS X.

Why do people write Mac with capitals? (ie MAC)

I have wondered that too. Something else that puzzles me - why is it that some people think that the company that produced their computer of choice is called - mac?

To the clueless fanboys (not you) - Apple, Inc. makes a computer whose name is Mac - which is a shortened version of Macintosh.

Good point, Adrian.

By far the best, funniest (and sexiest) Get a Mac Ad is the one called 'Better Results' from 2006 (http://movies.apple.com/movies/us/apple/getamac/betterresults_480x376.mov).

I'm getting a little tired of them. _But_, I think the advertising ad was hilarious, and a great response to the new vista ads (which I find boring and over-earnest).

You're not being objective. Anyone watching these ads impartially can see the latest two are significantly better (and more biting) than recent previous ads in the series. For you to essentially put them down as "more of the same" means you're using bias in your evaluation.
