Apple pulls Software Update for AirPort Extreme
Apple released AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003, but then pulled it several minutes later. The update now no longer shows up in Software Update, and the page it was on is missing from Apple's site.
The update was originally recommended for all Intel-based Macs with Mac OS X 10.5.5. The update said it resolved "some issues with AirPort connections when roaming in large Wi-Fi networks."
The file was available from this page on Apple's website, and via Software Update. It's unclear why the update was pulled, or if there are any consequences for those who have installed it already.
If you installed the update, do you notice anything amiss? Let us know by leaving a comment.
Thanks, Danny and Randall!

I installed it when it came up in Software Update. Since the update, the signal strength on my Intel Mini has improved quite a bit: four bars almost all the time, rather than the typical three or two. I don't have any idea why Apple pulled it.

After the update, using the iTunes Remote on my iPhone to control music being played via AirTunes feature now drops signal (interrupts music after several seconds of play time, then plays again only to be repeated).
My setup worked fine before the update and this was the only change.

ha ha ha! it totally killed my airport extreme. i knew it right away. made an appointment at apple store next morning. took it in. they said it was 'dead'. it was out of warrantee so i had to buy a new one. they asked me if i had it hooked up to a surge protector! we set up the new one and for the heck of it plugged the old one in and ot worked. hen it did not. somethign wrong. I kept the receipt. thanks for the heads up. gonna get a refund and replacement now!

This update just came out today so there hasn't been a "next morning" yet. I think you may have your updates mixed up.

Update installed, nothing seems different. Same signal strength and no instability. I wouldn't worry too much if you have it installed, but we'll see why Apple pulled it.

I didn't get my hands on it but my friend did and he said his speed significantly decreased. He is on a new MBP.

I installed it already. The connection for me seems a little bit jumpier, but besides that, I haven't noticed any flaws. I hope this didn't do any damage to my brand new MacBook Pro. =(

It installed itself in the background and then just asked for a password and restart. No problems so far. Wifi came back pretty quickly after restart and seems to be working fine for the last several hours. This is on an Intel Mini.

Installed it, no problems so far with wireless connectivity but I don't have any disks or printers attached so can't comment on that.

Installed on my MBP without any problem so far. The signal seems stronger.

To me, it sounds like some intern at Apple accidentally pressed the "button" so to speak which in turn released the software update inadvertently. Again, just speculation.
