Apple pulls Software Update for AirPort Extreme

Apple released AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003, but then pulled it several minutes later. The update now no longer shows up in Software Update, and the page it was on is missing from Apple's site.

The update was originally recommended for all Intel-based Macs with Mac OS X 10.5.5. The update said it resolved "some issues with AirPort connections when roaming in large Wi-Fi networks."

The file was available from this page on Apple's website, and via Software Update. It's unclear why the update was pulled, or if there are any consequences for those who have installed it already.

If you installed the update, do you notice anything amiss? Let us know by leaving a comment.

Thanks, Danny and Randall!

Surprisingly, this is the first time I have checked threads since my install the day it came out.

For me it has significantly lowered the reception on my Mac Pro, it never gets to full strength and sometimes it drops to only 2 bars. I tried deleting the plist files, and that seemed to work for about 30 seconds after reboot. It seems once they were regenerated the problem immediately came back. The ONLY success I had was to delete the system com.apple.nat.plist file. Upon reboot I had the best signal strength I've EVER HAD. I was averaging 2.6MB/sec (usually 1.2MB). But that file does not regenerate, so I went to open Parallels and it said there were missing drivers. I replaced the plist file and everything worked....and my signal strength went down again.

2 days ago I got the update and I don't get anything new with the airport, but my Wireless Mighty Mouse has going nuts instead! Its tracking is jumping all over the place. I use a moshi mousepad all the time.

I just got the update prompt for Airport Extreme Update 2008-004 (vs. 2008-003 that went out earlier this week). I haven't updated it yet.

I had AirPort turned off when installing the update.
Afterward, each time I tried to turn on AirPort; Sys Preferences would been unresponsive and the spinning beachball (pinwheel) of hell would start and stay spinning.

Read on another site about this error, to go to: Macintosh HD, Library, Preferences, SystemConfiguration then send the com.apple.airport.preferences.plist into Trash.
Restart.
AirPort would be turned on when i logged on.
Had to type in the wireless SSID and passphrase into AirPort to connect.
It worked. But after reading some other posts, I did see the my network adaptor is now a/b/g/ no type n.

Had the same issues with Itunes 8 install. Found out after a reinstall of Itunes 8and calling Applecare who told me to reinstall Itunes 8 again, that I had to delete quicktime and reinstall it.

Dirty pool Apple.

I couldn't turn on my AP on my MBP earlier - after a few reboots it worked though.

for people who are noticing a slowdown... check Network Utility. My 802.11a/b/g/n was changed to a/b/g/ post-update.

I can no longer turn on AP on my iMactel. My printer is plugged into an APExpress so I can't print, but my Mac is using an ethernet connection to the modem.

Ho do we fix?
