iPod Shuffle colors updated
Apple has updated the iPod shuffle line with new colors. Specifically, you've got grey, blue, green, pink and Product (RED) to choose from.Everything else is the same; the 1GB model costs $49US while the 2GB version is $69US. Personally, I liked the orange and am sad to see it go. I'm quite happy with my "fat" nano, but I'm often tempted to buy a shuffle. They're just so tiny, sturdy and durable, I think, "Why not?"
So, what do you think of the new colors?

We always get product update emails way later than when they were actually released/announced.

I think they're pretty nice now. Though they were pretty nice when Apple refreshed them a month ago.

Did you hear Apple just released a 3G version of the iPhone?!?!?

Yeah... This happened last month, when all the other iPods were updated. It just wasn't important enough to be announced by Jobs himself.
Oh, and the orange shuffle? It's been gone for over a year now.
Seriously, has TUAW been living under a rock?

No, like the rest of the weblogs Inc sites they justhave this itch to hit "post" as soon as they receive anything that looks like news.

Yeah, they haven't quite got over the "post-anything-you-hear" frenzy from last week's notebook refresh rumors.

I wonder if TUAW will leave this post online or take it down to save face.

I wasn't going to comment on timeliness on TUAW over the past while, delayed (and sometimes of questionable news-worthiness) or not. But as an owner of a "fat" nano and a Shuffle, Dave, I can say the Shuffle has a fond place for me. If you're into exercising with your iPod and don't need/care about the Nike kit, you can't get a better player. The size and durability are perfect to not have to worry about when running, and the controls are intuitive without ever needing to look at them. In a world of iPhones and Touches, they are definitely the underrated runt of the iPod line.

I agree completely. Its awesomeness lies in the ability to operate it using just two fingers to pinch, with no visual feedback whatsoever. Running, biking, riding skateboards and so on. Also, it's cute :-)

I'm an iPhone owner but have often thought about getting a shuffle to take to the gym. It's between that and a new nano. But if I get a nano then I have to get the arm band, and I don't really think I would use it for all it's worth, so I'll pry just get a shuffle. I'll probably get a refurbished one. It's an extra $10 or $20 off. Can't beat that! :)

They did, a month ago. Pay attention.

Yup - I have a nano for movies and :in the house" kind of tasks, but you can't beat the shuffle for running or working out at the gym. I actually have 2 shuffles!

I love my Shuffle (the orange one, of course). I have an iPhone, a 5G iPod, a 2G nano, but the one I really use other than the iPhone is my Shuffle when I go running. I'm really glad to see that my prediction that the "lively" colors would soon return to replace the pastels (but I figured they switch back in the Spring and come back to the muted colors again in the Fall, oh well). My only gripe is that they axed the orange one! Boooo Apple.

I kinda wonder if this is the same guy who wrote the article about the "brand new awesome games in Terminal no one has ever heard about". haha.
On a more serious note, to answer your question, while the shuffles look nice, I'd use your nano over a shuffle any day. I got a shuffle for my mother's birthday last year (trying to ease her into electronics) and she is constantly annoyed that she can't pick the song she wants to hear, or at least see who's playing...which then becomes my job to figure out what song I put on her shuffle as she tries to hum it to me over the phone. Stick with a pod that has a screen.

for a first timer, iPod shuffles are deffinitely not the thing to intice them into apple products... it's simple, but too simple.
I've had a cute little orange shuffle for 2 years and upgraded to an iPhone, had a 4G 20GB iPod for a while beforehand but it died when i dropped it :(
In between i was using this really crap 1GB mp3 player, which didn't have iTunes intergration and was just shit in general... the great thing about the shuffle is the autofill and the size of it. So small!
I still use it when i goto the gym or in the car (don't want to be using a touchscreen device whiel driving :S) , but i've got an Apple Store gift card lying around so might get one of those new iPod nanos and nike+ kit.

Last year when my iPod (with colour screen) died, I headed out to the Apple store and picked up a shuffle.
While it didn't hold all my music (something I love about the classic) I really took to the little guy. It was great for my walks back and forth to school, and the price was almost unbeatable...
...until they dropped it a few months later!
$50 for a gig? Worth every penny.
