Apple: No more new hardware in 2008
Earlier this week, Apple told Macworld Magazine (in so many words) that all hardware updates are complete for 2008. "Our holiday line-up is set," said spokesman Bill Evans. There was a rumor of an iMac update, but that's now be squashed. What you see is what you're going to get. With the recent updates to the laptop and iPod lines (and less recently, the iPhone), the iMac is ripe for a refresh at January's Macworld Expo. The Mac Pro will be ready by January as well, but I don't expect an update to their pro-level machine at a consumer show.
At any rate, Apple's product line is ready for your holiday shopping dollars. Our shopping series of posts will begin soon, so keep an eye out.

A Mac mini update would've been nice. Ah well.

I too was hoping to get a new mini for my granddaughter for the gift exchange holiday. The current ones don't have the graphics horsepower for some of the games she'd like to play. Guess this will have to wait.

They should have made one more piece of hardware -- a voting machine that actually works. Imagine if a legit company that produces quality hardware actually took a shot at making these machines.

Amen. I'm watching CNN and they're reporting tons of voting issues, led by crashing machines.

I'm not getting an iMac before Macworld, at the very least, and if it's not updated by then...
I hope we'll be getting some Intel Core i7 love soon - maybe that's what they're busy with right now. I'm not expecting a major redesign ... and I don't think it's necessary either. But yeah, Core i7 in early '09, Apple! Preee?

Note Apple's apparent commitment is no new hardware updates.
Nothing says they can't bring something NEW to market, say a tablet. And were the laptop changes a refresh, or do they count as a new product? I suspect the latter, so perhaps there will be a new 17 inch laptop for the holidays. It is a obvious gap in the new portable line-up.

Great, now all they have to do is lower iMac and MacMini prices to reflect their underperforming graphics, lower flash ram based iPods to reflect falling prices, oh and yeah, add a firewire port and matte screen to the new MacBook! Hah, as if, this might mean some sort of connection between Apple and tepid economy and Apple and consumer. My two cents!

ummmmmmmm, what ever happened to those potentially awesome headphones? Did they ever come out for the iPhone?

I'm wondering about these as well. I've been waiting for them patiently (they were promised to ship in October) but my patience is wearing thin.

So finally they're done... New MacBook Air, The New iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 2nd gen, New MacBooks (MacBook / MacBook Pro / MacBook Air)... Good enough for a year !!

Sad, I was also hoping to gift a new Mini for Christmas. Well, I'll keep waiting.

Sounds like Apple's ramping up for MacWorld in January.
On a side note, I wonder if they are evaluating the fate of FireWire on iMacs and Mac Minis. I can see the upcoming Apple website's iLife '09 tutorial videos now: showing a USB2 DV camera being connected to a 2009-iMac, just to spite people!

They had better update the Phone camera, that's all I can say.
