Change is coming... to the Apple Store

Sorry, couldn't resist. Yes, the Apple Store is down right now (apparently worldwide no, just US and Canada, sorry) despite Apple's denial of any new products before the holiday season. Chances are this is just routine maintenance, although it's definitely Tuesday... so we'll see.

Update: Looks like it's the holiday window dressing and possibly some changes to the refurb section.

Thanks to all the night owls who sent this in.

I think they take the site down periodically to let us know changes are happening. Get some attention... Why else would they do this?

Sadly, Apple's new earphones (In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic, Earphones with Remote and Mic), which were promised to ship in October, are still showing up as "Coming Soon".

So, why does Apple have to take down their whole website to make holiday changes? Or to make changes at ALL?

I can't think of a single other site that has to shutdown in order to make either minor or major updates. Hmm.

Is it my imagination or have they also raised the prices of refurbished MacBook Pros! Could it be that they are capitalizing on the fact that the previous generation's matte screen is a bit more popular than they thought?

A 15" 2.33Ghz that was listed well under $1300 yesterday is now at $1499!

Refurbished MacBook Pro, 15-inch Glossy Display, 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
15.4-inch glossy widescreen display
2GB memory
120GB hard drive
6x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB of GDDR3 memory
Built-in iSight camera
$1,499.00

The reorganized Special Deals page is really dreadful! How could anyone have imagined that this hodgepodge would be an improvement? What are they putting in the Kool-aid over there at Apple these days?
