Apple LED Displays shipping soon
-cb_shipping_date_12739123.jpg)
Last night, some eagle-eyed readers noticed that Apple has changed the shipping status for the LED Cinema Displays. Previously, the status said "Coming Soon," but as of last night it says "Ships in 7-10 Business Days." However, the option to buy is still not available on the Apple Store page.
I talked with an Apple Store representative and they told me that there is still no set release date, but when you are able to purchase the displays, there will be an initial 7-10 day wait for shipping. These new Cinema Displays are the first Apple has shipped with LED backlighting and glossy LCD screens. The displays are marketed towards new MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro buyers who want a desktop experience, but notebook portability. In fact, these laptop users are the only ones able to take advantage of the new DisplayPort-enabled Cinema Displays -- older DVI-equipped machines can't drive them until a DVI-DisplayPort adapter comes along.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
| Of course, who doesn't like 24" Cinema Displays? | |

| Meh, it's cool, but it's too glossy for me | |
| Glossy? You've got to be kidding me. I hope this is a "phase" Apple's going through. | |

I've been assuming that an LED display would have one (or more) LED(s) per pixel, but some of the descriptions I've read recently speak of "LED backlighting with an LCD screen". Could someone explain this for those of us behind the power curve? Thanks for your help.

The whole trying to phase out building plastic laptops is understandable and admirable but the design... and glossy screen!? Come on, how am I supposed to work with Aperture and Photoshop on a screen like that. Working in any lighting condition will become a nightmare. :(

Apple knows even non-Mac users will buy these monitors, let along users with Mac hardware that lacks DisplayPort.
You know the refreshed Mac Minis will use DisplayPort, here's guessing that a 9400-based Mini comes out that, when paired with a new Cinema display becomes a "separable" iMac
Honestly. The only people really interested in this would be graphics pros, and Apple scared them off with the glossy screen. And I really don't know who would buy this as a monitor for a desktop computer, with the high price, but who knows. Cut the price by a few benjies and you might sell a few.

Sitting next to my set are a couple of firewire connected Lacie quads and a couple of firewire DVD burners. I'm not likely to switch to lose firewire and gain mini-displayport and LED. I'll also wait for performance reviews.
I just built a PC desktop and connected an Eizo. Apple has competition.
glossy ? gimmie a break apple...i really hope thats a phase apple is going through...
and can someone tell me why should i buy a 900$ monitor when i can buy three 24" samsung monitors with 900$?
Ohhh yea, because it got the apple logo on it and because its made for the new macbooks...
BS!
(im not an apple hater,im a huge fun, but also im not getting so excited with everything)
peace.
Three words:
Too. Fracking. Expensive. When the Apple tax is 100% of the price of the monitor, you gotta draw the line. Plus, unless I ge a new-gen Macbook I'd have nothing to connect the monitor to.
Waaaay to expensive.
