Apple LED Displays shipping soon
-cb_shipping_date_12739123.jpg)
Last night, some eagle-eyed readers noticed that Apple has changed the shipping status for the LED Cinema Displays. Previously, the status said "Coming Soon," but as of last night it says "Ships in 7-10 Business Days." However, the option to buy is still not available on the Apple Store page.
I talked with an Apple Store representative and they told me that there is still no set release date, but when you are able to purchase the displays, there will be an initial 7-10 day wait for shipping. These new Cinema Displays are the first Apple has shipped with LED backlighting and glossy LCD screens. The displays are marketed towards new MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro buyers who want a desktop experience, but notebook portability. In fact, these laptop users are the only ones able to take advantage of the new DisplayPort-enabled Cinema Displays -- older DVI-equipped machines can't drive them until a DVI-DisplayPort adapter comes along.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Ditto.

Agreed. I think it's beautiful and also awesome since it's essentially a docking station... The monitor + keyboard + mouse = desktop.
Just way too pricy.

Other: WTF no support for standard DVI, VGA, or HDMI?

Even more painful in oz. $1500!!! A 20" iMac is $1600. An extra $100 and you get a computer inside that monitor (minus 4 inches).
How do they plan on reaching the consumer market with those kind of prices?!

The monitors do look very cool (I love glossy screens personally!) unfortunately I have no real need to buy one at the moment.

What I wish apple would figure out is that a docking station would be an answer to many people's prayers instead of having to unplug/ plug in 4 cords every time you take/bring back your macbook.

And why is it supposed to be the Apple's job? Don't we have enough capable and interested people? I'd rather see Apple concentrating on things that matter (as it does now).

They were working on it.

That is what I was hoping this would have turned out to be. It's a real shame it's not. Had this been the case, I would have bought one Yesterday.

The thing is there needs to be a connector like lots of business and even consumer pc's have now, that allows access to all the available ports on the motherboard. It would be a feature from Apple's end, any other way of doing it is less elegant.

We could use another 24" LCD display here and I'd buy one today... if there were a DVI to Display port adapter that is...

Man, there's not even a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter. This whole interface is a joke.

I hope Apple comes out with a DVI to Display Port adapter so we can plug in to these neat displays.

Hopefully someone here, or perhaps someone that I feel is great about these types of adapters and such (maybe Belkin) will release a dock of some sort. That seems to be what a lot of people are wanting, an easy way to "dock" their notebooks without screwing around with several cables etc., just a "one plug dock" with power/video/mouse/network, etc. all in one shot, that would be nice. :-)

Need the new Mac mini to drive it.

Now you're talking! An easily upgradable iMac. The new mini just needs a little clip to hook it on the stand, and, of course, the Display Port.

Will be getting an adapter for DVI- to drive my 30" and existing 23" Cinema displays. The new one looks very nice, but I haven't been able to justify a new display at this time. Now if one of my other ones would just break... or I could give the 23" to my Daughter? There's a possibility.....

I just got a gorgeous 24" LCD from newegg for about $340. Even though it's a stunning design, I say "no thanks" to the $900 Apple LCD.

And I assume you can also use it with most computers on the market today, correct?
