Apple releases Safari 3.2.1

If you've been paying attention to the Apple updates this week, then you know that they've done some heavy updating in this area. The past few days have seen updates to iPhone/iPod touch, iTunes, Apple TV, Pro Applications, Trackpad, and QuickTime.
You can get the Safari update, or any other updates you might be missing, by opening Software Update (Apple menu > Software Update). You can also download the installer packages from the Apple Support Downloads website.
Thanks to monu, and others for the tips!

Hopefully this fixes the tabs opening in separate windows bug.

TUAW already addressed a way to "fix" this "bug" and enable single-window mode to Safari.

That should do it.

Tabs opening in multiple windows is just not tabs.. it's opening in multiple windows - a totally different concept. That's why you have 'open in new window' and 'open in new tab' as separate options.
So if that is happening (and I haven't seen this bug) then that's definately a straight bug, not a "bug".

can someone answer a question for me?
why would you need to restart for a safari update?

Perhaps because it alters some kernel extensions ;-)

The restart is because the frameworks that Safari uses, namely WebKit, are updated, and those frameworks are used by all kinds of software, including background daemon's. The installer just replaces the frameworks, but all the applications currently running are still using the original library. This can cause problems for them, and that's why Apple has you restart.

that makes sense... still, it would be more convenient if WebKit were updated separately, requiring a restart, but a Safari update only meant quitting Safari.

Exactly. Kind of like when you install a new version of Internet Explorer, you are also updating MSHTML.DLL and a bunch of other OS-level files, forcing a reboot of the whole OS.
Built-in browser: reboot OS
Third-party browser: reboot Application

Can somebody answer this for me? Why would you want to download updates via the Support page when you can just use Software Update? It seems like an added hassle.

I download the packages and then push them out to the clients that I manage, so downloading it from the website is the only to download the packages.

Yes, I can. I used to help out in my school IT department for community service hours. We would always manually download the update and push it out to the hundreds of computers we administrated, rather than manually running software update on every single computer. When a MacBook EFI update came out, we just had all the teachers run the software uodate app, but when an update comes out for the rows iMacs in our computer lab, we download it to our school server and pushed it out that way.

I dont know if this is a common problem but my safari always hangs for about 10-15 seconds sometimes when flash is embedded on a page. Does anyone else face this problem?

"always hangs for about 10-15 seconds sometimes"
Always sometimes?
Seriously though, this isn't anything I've noticed.

This new version of Safari feel more stable and a tiny bit faster but cant wait till Apple releases a public beta of Safari 4 hopefully before the end of the year.

I hate having to restart my iMac for something I never use because it's crap compared to Firefox.

Nothing you use uses WebKit? You're restarting because WebKit has also been updated.
