Touchgrind in the App Store

Unfortunately, there's no free demos here -- either you jump in for $5 or you don't. But if you do, there's actually a lot on offer -- 3 game modes, 12 different boards each with their own abilities, and a set of tutorials to get you started. I'm intrigued: I'm not quite sure a mini skateboard will keep my attention for all that long, but it might be worth $5 just to see the physics in action.

I remain a complete non-fan of "fingerboarding," or skateboarding on a miniature skateboard with your fingers, but on the other hand (so...

Dear all,
I represent a China-based consultancy and we have a professional team who are able to turn your ideas into iPhone applications with their expertise. (We are also have teams specialized in developing mobile software for other platforms such as Symbian, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, J2ME, etc.) Our senior iPhone engineers usually have more than 3 years experience in Mac & Cocoa and just transitioned to iPhone once its SDK launched.
What people can gain from us is more than development. Our team do project management, design and quality assurance (including but not limiting to testing). Like Brian Jeremy Kupetz said, we have sound development processes involving R&D, architecture, use cases, risk management, QA, stress testing, unit testing, code reviews, version control, even change management. We continuously improve our processes to be more efficient because iPhone projects' term is usually shorter than that of regular software projects.
Also considering user experience is critical for iPhone app, we employ design expert experienced in mac to do user experience design. I believe this capability will also add much value to our service and worth our clients pay more than pure programming service.
And our team adopts 2 best practices for iPhone projects - iterative development and prototyping. We use prototype to reach agreement with clients on user experience and functionalities before we dive into concrete implementation.
Based in China, our charge rate would be very flexible. If you have a great idea but limited budget, we may be your good choice. Even though, developers here don't need to worry about the competition at all.
As Raven said, the demand for iPhone developers exceeds the supply and I don't see that changing anytime soon. And we are just the few companies in China who are capable to do iPhone projects. So just take it easy. :)
If people here ask me why we don't develop and ship to app store by ourselves, I would say we are not marketing experts and don't understand iPhone market in US and Europe.
I hope we can work with passionate entrepreneurs to create mutual success together. I really enjoy that feeling of success. Anyone interested pls drop me an email at:ming.zhou@roylead.com

Thanks for your patience..

as if fingerboarding wasn't bad enough...
November 28 2008 at 11:48 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYeah, I've bought it as well and was impressed. Agree with the comment about not knowing in time when an obstacle is coming up but overall well worth £2.99 (UK price)
I'd like to see a global leaderboard, manual tricks and and unlimited practice area but I'm sure at least some of those will be in the next version
Needs to stream the front-facing camera to a second iPhone over Wifi. Then it should swap when a round is over. Then whoever has the other iPhone, they get to play next and the second camera is now on your phone. Duh.

The thing I don't like about this app is the camera angle. You can't see whats in front and at the back of you, but you can always zoom out. There are also indicators of where the ramp is, and the indicator will pulsate if it's time to you to do your trick.
I can't think of a different camera angle for you to be able to control the board, it's the only camera angle that is suitable, or maybe a split view will help, one camera facing the board/ground and one camera facing in front.
I also feel your pain. I bet the developer(s) of this app thought long and hard about this problem, but simply couldn't pick up a sensible solution. It's almost impossible to maintain the area of the board for touch events and also giving you a sense of where you are on the course. Hopefully we'll see an update in the future.
November 28 2008 at 12:59 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI just bought it. It's a great app overall and if you're looking for an amazingly designed app to kill your time and amuse you, this is the winner.
November 28 2008 at 12:08 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've been waiting for this game for a while now. I appreciate the notification; but, like the other posters so far, I do believe there should be some kind of budget for testing out apps if you cannot convince the developer for a press copy for review. These notification posts should end with something like, "a full review will follow soon..." or at least, "The developers have been contacted for a formal review."
November 28 2008 at 12:07 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThat was a lot of words to essentially say "There is this fingerboarding game in the app store that I'm really interested in but haven't tried yet because there is no free version." Not really useful info here.
November 27 2008 at 11:52 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm sorry to say, but this review was a waste of my time. You're posting that an app is available and you think the physics are good - but you're not sure if you should buy it - is that the gist of your post?
I expect you guys to spend five bucks on the possibly shit apps so we don't have to - is that asking to much?
You know what... Go buy the app, and update this post and tell us if it was worth it or not.
Thanks for the advice.
