I've tried both, the latest version of Fusion and Parallels, and I find Parallels to be much more stable, quicker and better graphics wise (I even got some games to play)..
But might be a nice price for those who want to try them both :)

I dont think you can get both the 50% and the $30 rebate. From the terms and conditions of the $30 rebate on the WMWare site:
"5. This rebate is not valid with any other VMware sponsored offers. Limit one (1) rebate per address as determined by VMware in its sole discretion."
Oh and:
"6. Rebate valid to consumers in the United States and Canada only. Offer void where prohibited by law. Rebate is made by check in U.S. dollars."

You can certainly combine them. As far as the rebate processor is concerned, a serial key purchased from the VMware e-store with a coupon is no different than one purchased for full-price.
First, purchase the serial key with the coupon code for 50% off.
Then, submit your serial key and proof of Parallels or Virtual PC ownership via the rebate page linked from the VMware Fusion home page, and you will receive a $30 check in the mail, for US and Canadian customers only (sorry international folks. It's a legal and logistical thing.)

That's nice :) It sounded too good to be true to be honest. Too bad I don't live in the US or Canada.

What ever happened to that 'any day now' article comparing Fusion and Parallels?
Jash Sayani said 3:31PM on 12-01-2008
Still why pay 40 bucks when Sun VirtualBox does it for free...? I have been using Vista on VirtualBox and its pretty stable...

Amen to that. Have been using VirtualBox and actually switched from VMWare Fusion. Granted, file sharing isn't transparent and you only get one CPU thread, but it's dang fast and absolutely free.
Jash Sayani said 3:47PM on 12-01-2008
Yep. Its the best. Does all I need and I get quick support from forum. Just waiting for Aero support. Then it would be perfect !

Can VirtualBox use a bootcamp partition as the virtual machine's drive like Fusion and Parallels?
masterjedidan said 5:10PM on 12-01-2008
VirtualBox does not support using the Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine drive. I never really understood why Parallels and VMWare do that though, if someone created a Boot Camp partition it probably is because they are running programs in it that are too cpu/graphics intensive to be run inside a virtual machine.

The reason why we support Boot Camp partition is for two reasons:
1. There are users who already have Boot Camp installed, and don't want to have to re-do their Windows installation. This lets them do that. Also, in Fusion 2, we have a feature for importing Boot Camp partitions, to get "full virtual" benefits like "Suspend/Resume" and Snapshots.
2. There are users who have one set of requirements for Windows at one time, and a different set for other times. For example, if you use Outlook for email, or Internet Explorer for browser testing, but also like to play super high-end 3D games like Crysis, for instance, then you would likely want to run VMware Fusion on top of Boot Camp. When you want to use Outlook, you will be able to do so side by side with Mac OS X applications, without rebooting.
Then, when you want to go into "full on game mode" you can reboot into Boot Camp natively. This way, you can use your Windows install for both use cases, without duplication.
These two reasons are why Boot Camp support is valuable. However, as 3D acceleration support in virtualization runtimes gets better and better, #2 may be less and less important.

Because many users have *some* applications that are better suited to BootCamp, but *most* of their applications are just fine in VMWare Fusion or Parallels. So, why have two separate Windows installations when you don't have to? It makes *perfect* sense for plenty of people.

Wow. I wish I could have bought this today, but after fighting with the VMWare virtual store for like 3 hours now, I give up. The support rep was completely useless, too... told me to send an email to "sales". What a waste...
