iRingPro offers "professional" ringtones

Like many of you, I love the convenience and fun of owning a mobile phone. However, I detest loud and obnoxious ring tones, not to mention the disappointment of a great conversation interrupted by an ear-shattering rendition of The Hamster Dance.

I'd prefer it if people used their phone's (least annoying) default tone, but I know that some users can't resist fiddling around. Here's hoping those people will check out iRingPro.

Billed as "...smart, attractive, livable alerts," these aren't your nephew's ringtones. Instead, you get a serene but noticeable series of notes that won't elicit strange looks in the board room. Additionally, the pause between repetitions is longer than most, eliminating that sense of "I've got to answers this now!" urgency. There are few samples you can check out on the site, and they're quite nice.

A collection of 21 tones in M4R format will run you $9.95US. Please, if you're the downloading type, consider iRingPro.

Alternatively, you can try your hand at making your own classy tones with GarageBand.

I love these. Completely right on. There just isn't anything bad you can say about this idea. Right idea at the right time, I say. These guys with their 50 cents is too much for a ringtone attitudes need a reality check. Unless you're a hard-core, free-only, who-cares-if-my-entire-music-library-is-stolen, bottom feeder, you've probably paid 5 times more than that at least once in your pre iphone life. And it was probably for some dumb song that everyone around you hated. And we've all made our own ringtones, but let's be honest, you don't hear a lot of people making ringtones that aren't obnoxious yet.

Hey I would pay $10 to make other peoples' phones sound like this!

Thank you for sharing this. I've been looking for something like this for a long time. Finally someone realizes that not everyone wants the dirtiest, most ghetto club song as a ringtone.

Can they actually sell those tones that are played in public space in Japan?

There are some pretty cool Christmas ringtones from Geoff Smith over at http://www.ringtonefeeder.com/xmas08 - they are not free but just 5 bucks for 24 ringtones sounds pretty fair.

Dave, are you working for them or receiving any consideration for writing crap like this?

"Please, if you're the downloading type, consider iRingPro."

This sounds like something a shill would say. Let us know if you're either being compensated for this or you think this is a worthy item of information to post (in a most uncritical way - $9.95, really?).

Perhaps your posts just need be disregarded, like some of the other contributors to TUAW deserve to be. Or maybe you have no integrity and you're secretly advertising to us. I really hope it's not the latter.

I could only hope that those who complain about price or who claim they can make their own ring tones either damp their horrible tones down or create something other than the current loud adolescent noise emanating from their phones. This outfit, iRingPro, has a solution. Complain if you want, but they have created very meeting friendly sounds. Good for them!

I hope those cheques from iringpro.com keep you warm at night Caolo; the warm glow of journalistic integrity sure as hell won't.

Actually just bought these. The problem is: the volume level is low compared to the tones used for a text messages or voicemails. In other words, you have to choose whether or not to have a ringtone that you might not hear, or a text message sound that will blast everyone away. I may edit my favorite one in Adobe Audition to bring up the volume, and then reringtoneify it.

I really wish I could change my text message or voicemail sounds to some of these. Thanks a fucking lot apple. Things can be simple without hurting functionality... make me type in some fancy code (a la field mode) to unlock advanced mode or something where I can change my f'ing text message tone arbitrarily.
