iTunes library tool SuperSync half-off today

I haven't run the numbers thoroughly, but there's a team consensus here that iTunes library management and synchronization questions occupy high slots in the top 10 list of frequent questions to Ask TUAW and our tip line. With multiple machines, iPods/iPhones and massive libraries of media, keeping everything shipshape can be a real challenge.

Past posts have discussed several options for sharing and syncing, including products like Syncopation, myTuneSync, TuneRanger and Mojo -- and one item that keeps showing up in the list is SuperSync, mentioned by Mat here. It may not be the most attractive tool for the job, but reports are that it handles the task with aplomb (though it's a good idea to back up your library first).

SuperSync is discounted 50% today via MacZot, at $14.95 for a pair of licenses (allowing you to sync 2 machines); if library cleanup is on your holiday to-do list, it might be a good last-second purchase. We'll aim for a TUAW Faceoff on the various library sync and management tools early in the new year.

Have you guys tried SuperSync? I find it a great iTunes synching device. It’s working great for me and my family to merge music between our computers to create a master library around the house.

Check it out for yourself. You can download it for free:

Thanks for mentioning myTuneSync. I had not heard of it or run across it until today when I read your article. I am trying to sync iTunes to a Mac desktop and Windows laptop, and not all utilities are cross platform, which is a bit frustrating. I tried TuneRanger and frankly found it mind boggling, so I'm going to give myTuneSync a try. I appreciate it!

and.....I still see no reason to stop using a one line rsync shell script to keep everything in sync. rsync == win.

thanks for reminding me about maczot though.

Doesn't rsync nuke your local changes to your playlists, ratings, play counts etc.? If you copy the library file that's all gone...

Thanks for the heads up. I have been reading a lot about apps that will sync my iMac and MBP music. I have been eyeing SuperSync among the batch. This sale is just timely. I just bought one!

I agree, SuperSync is still the best Sync tool. I have been using it for a long time to keep multiple Macintosh iTunes libraries synced to a NAS.

SuperSync works on Mac and Windows.. so it's the best of the bunch, as far as I'm concerned..

Odd request: since you're an Apple blog, not just a Mac/iPhone blog, would you consider doing such a roundup for Windows (another Apple iTunes platform)? Thanks.

That's a fair request... we certainly will note when the sync tools are cross-platform (as SuperSync and TuneRanger are) but I don't know if we have enough Windows iTunes jockeys on call to check on that functionality. We'll see!
