Get VMWare Fusion 2.0 at a steal, after rebates, free upgrade

If you have been waiting to get your hands on VMWare's Fusion, then now is the perfect time. Fusion is the software that allows you to run Windows, Linux, and now Mac OS X Server in a virtual machine right inside of Mac OS X! And you don't have to pay the regular $79.99US for it either.

MacMall is currently offering VMWare Fusion 1.0 for $14.99US after a $20US mail-in rebate. Fusion 1.0 can be upgraded to the newest version (2.0) via a free upgrade available from VMWare. You can grab this after-holiday sale item from the MacMall website.

OK everyone calm down and take it easy, I downloaded the file from the VMWare site. The install took the key that was in the box. Also I put in the key wrong on the rebate website put an O instead of a 0.

But now I need to get a copy of windows. Maybe the IT guys at work can help.

OK, well I bought this from MacMall. Turns out the the purchase is not eligible for the $20 rebate. The box they are sending is from earlier in the year with a coupon offer that ends on June 30, 2008.

Nice bait and switch.

Jeez, it would be great if every now and then an offer like this was accessible to those parts of the planet located outside North America

Thanks for the tip, I've been using Parallels but I'm not going to pay their $50 upgrade fee, not when I can get this one cheaper.

Honestly, even without the rebate, thirty-five bucks for Fusion is pretty darn good.

On the other hand, WAY too cheap for free shipping...

Mail in rebates on the computers usually get renewed on MacConnection.com and Fusion for free* has been up there for a while... but there is a whole new year coming, not just a new month. I think the best deals tend to come with the computer purchase so it could be worth waiting.

Actually upon looking they even have some good prices on the new and previous generation Macs too, with Fusion for free* and a printer: http://www.macconnection.com/IPA/PM/Brands/Apple/holidayblowout.htm

It looks like a great deal but the mail in rebate form has to be submitted by january 15th
bogus... because i probably wont get it till january, and then its in california so they might not receive the rebate.

Hmm, you think it might take that long to ship? Then again, I'm in California. In fact, I'm very close to their brick and mortar store. Wonder if that deal works for in-store purchases as opposed to online.

I don't have an Intel Mac to speak of (just a 5-year-old Power Mac G4), but I'm planning to get one in the next few months. Do you think I should go for it?

From what I've seen, this is the best deal ever on VMWare Fusion, except for the Free deal they always have at MacConnection.com with purchase of a new Mac.

But there's no guarantee I'll buy my Mac at MacConnection since, comparatively, they rarely have the best prices.
