2009 Macworld Keynote video available
As usual, Apple has released a Quicktime video of the keynote address from this year's Macworld Expo. This one's rather historic, as well all know. It's simultaneously Phil Schiller's first and Apple's last.Right now it's available as a stream from Apple's website, but it typically shows up in the iTunes Store as a free download shortly thereafter. Be sure to grab a copy and "own a piece of history" as they say. Whoever "they" are.
So, what did you think of this year's presentation? We think Phil did a great job and was greeted warmly by the crowd. Sure, a little bit of fanfare would have been nice, but that was Tony Bennet's role, right?

jesus, dude: chill OUT and lay off the caps lock key. was your professional life depending on speculated hardware improvements? did you lose a ton of dough in the stock market? while not the most exciting keynote, it was solid and impressive (new HW, major SW updates and no more DRM). YOU are a prime example of why apple has stopped attending macworld: unreasonable expectations based on a calendar that apple is not in control of.

For some reason if you click the link a second time it takes you to the 2009 event after the first click takes you to the 2008 event. I can't explain this, but am passing along the tip so maybe it helps someone else.

I thought it was pretty disappointing. The software is nice, but it was a near-given, and the features aren't really enough to justify buying the new version alone when the next generation of hardware comes out. I bought my MacBook Pro just as iLife 08 came out. However, I do like the "Combo Pack" where Leopard, iWork, and iLife come together, but I already have Leopard. If they keep the deal for Snow Leopard, I'll definitely go for it because it adds on iWork for pretty cheap and I'm still using Microsoft Office 2004, and I don't want to pay for 2008 because it's expensive.

I don't get why everyone thinks the keynote was crap.
They had to show off one piece of hardware, so they chose the 17".
It's not shipping until the... end of January.
iLife 09 ships.. "in January".
They ran out of time because they showcased iPhoto and iMovie -- and both are looking great; Faces and Places have been available in MemoryMiner, but this is Apple style, which is better.
Look forward to a special event in January with updated mini and imac, which conveniently will ship with ilife 09.

It was awful because they didn't announce anything of interest. Of course the 17" was coming. Now the full line is unibody - great. Apple's stock price has dipped because the market responded just as many of us have - yawn...

David: AAPL stock drops every MWSF, every time Steve sneezes etc. because it always gets hyped up beyond what's deliverable, so it's a bit unfair to say that it's because of the lack of a Mini update, iMac refresh or iPhone Nano.
It closed at -0.42% -- let's see what it's at tomorrow instead.
Personally I would've loved seeing a updated Mini and iMac today as I want to replace my 1.66GHz Mini with something a tad faster and my 24" 2.16GHz iMac with either a faster (preferrably Quad Core) iMac or a Mac Pro.
Waiting a few weeks won't kill me, and it won't kill anyone else.

Sorry, but it was not Phil's first keynote.
Phil Schiller introduced the iMac G5 in Apple Expo Paris at the time Steve Jobs announced his cancer (in 2005 if i'm right).
Bye ;)

I'd loved to have heard something, *anything* about Snow Leopard. The end of DRM is a good thing, I liked some of the iPhoto features very much but I wonder who these days is in the market for a 2799 dollar laptop.
And the 50 dollar 'anti-glare' option is both an admission that glossy isn't for everybody and one barefaced, stunning piece of marketing: make a quick buck on a problem you yourself created.
And that's the end of that chapter.

The link works for me, but the audio is choppy and the video doesn't work. Anyone else having this problem???

Did Phil seem nervous and a little jittery to anyone else? I thought so and was quite surprised as he has done lots of PR and MacWorld bits in the past and is far from new to public speaking to that size of audience.
I wonder if he was just not as prepared as he would have liked. I've read that Stevo preps for weeks getting ready for MacWorld. Not knowing your material down cold can sometimes lead to nervousness. Perhaps Phil was handed this notice a little later than he would have liked.
