Buy Leopard, iWork '09, iLife '09 via the Mac Box Set
As mentioned in this morning's keynote, the Mac Box Set lets you purchase Mac OS 10.5.6, iLife '09 and iWork '09 in one tidy package for $169US. Additionally, shoppers can install the Mac Box Set Family Pack on up to five Mac computers in in the same household for $229US. Call us crazy, but we don't remember seeing such a bundle from Apple before. Before you pull out your credit card, know that this won't ship until iLife '09 ships, which Phil identified as "Late January." However, TUAW reader Lou purchased iLife '09 online today, and his receipt listed "February '09" as the ship date. So, we'll see.
If you happen to visit a store near a store in a major city today, have a look around or ask an employee if January is likely for this product. Let us know what you find. Thanks!

That's a great deal. iLife usually retails for about $79 and the same goes for iWork. Leopard (10.5) is about $120.

Because Leopard only has a life of a few months, it's not exactly that great value. Apple knows that few people are going to buy Leopard now with Snow Leopard on the way. I don't imagine this price will apply with Snow Leopard included.

i'll be buying the family box set when snow leopard is out. unless it's 64-bit only and won't work on my 2x core solo mac mini's.

Rule 47 on the Internets: If it does not apply or interest you then it must be the same for everybody.

The same is to say about you.

This set will probably ship just a few days before Apple announces a release date for Snow Leopard.

I won't knock the pricing scheme, but what am I gonna do with a copy of Leopard (which I already have on my MB)? Why not a better price for iLife+iWork?
Oh wait...*eyeballs his roommate's Intel Atom netbook*

I want iLife '09 and Snow Leopard, but I didn't see enough new, compelling features in iWork '09 to want to buy it on its own. If they still offer all three in one reduced-price package when Snow Leopard is released, I will definitely throw the money down for it.

What exactly where you looking for?? iWork has a lot of updates that are pretty big.
The mere abiliy to insert data into iWork 09 and have changes auto update (just like linkback) is huge for productivity.
Keynotes new animation is sharp
Pages outlining, bibliography and mail merge are oft requested improvements
Numbers has a lot more formulas and ways to manipulate data.
$79 is a steal to me but ymmv

What's the word on upgrades for iLife (if there are any)? I bought a Mini from the Apple site last Thursday that arrives tomorrow - do they give free upgrades for time frames such as this?

Contact Apple. They usually give a grace period with OS updates, but I'm not sure about iLife.
John said 5:20PM on 1-06-2009
I would imagine that the current version of Keynote doesn't support the iPhone remote app program so the upgrade would be easily justified by anyone with an iPhone that uses the program...

They haven't finished it yet.

Would tge new Snow Leopard include both these or are they just preinstalled on NEW computers?
I assume I'll have to pick up these and Snow Leopard when it comes out right?

iLife and iWork do not come with a new OS when you buy it.

so if you buy a mac between no wand March you can get iLife 09 for shipping cost of $9.95 just like iLife 08.

iWork will be different... but you can always download the trial to tide you over.

iWork '09 probably, but I doubt iLife '09 is something you have already.
