Macworld discount offered for TextSoap
One of my biggest pet peeves when dealing with text from outside sources is the amount of clean up I often have to do. The easiest solution is to strip all of the code, but then it's an equally painstaking task to reformat it.TextSoap is one of several applications that offers text filtering that allows you to have control over how you clean up your text. There are more than 100 cleaners built into the software, the ability to create customized cleaners, and integrates with Automator and AppleScript.
In honor of Macworld 2009, TextSoap 6 is currently on sale for 15% off the retail price of $39.95 for a single seat and $69.95 for a family pack through January 16. Use the code MACWORLD2009 when purchasing the software. TextSoap 6 requires OS X 10.5 or later.

I realize this program is much more powerful than my needs, but maybe this will help others - for simple stripping of formatted text, I copy and paste it into the search box in Safari. Then I cut the text and paste it into the application I need it in. It's a quick and simple way to get rid of formatting. Like I said I realize this program offers much more than stripping of formatting, but for simple format stripping Safari does the job.

I have Leopard so it's not sour grapes, but is it just me or is it strange to see apps require the very latest OS when all they do is manipulate text? Is it just programmer laziness?

TextEdit does the same thing - and it's free!

You're obviously totally uninformed on this so please don't post inaccurate and unfounded responses unless you're willing to prove your claims. :)

I don't think TextEdit or Safari can remove some of the code, but leave other code. It sounds like TextSoap will remove only the formatting you don't want and leave what you do. I've wanted something like this for a while to remove font and span tags from HTML text but leave bold and links. However this price point is a bit to much.
