Found Footage: Good grief, NCIS, do you take us for fools?

Resident NCIS geek Tim McGee (the same character who, in a past episode, managed to download a taxicab security video directly onto his iPhone) unpacks a boxful of his childhood computer gear; he proudly announces the computer you see above as his "Mac SE," when you don't need HDTV to know that it's a Mac Classic -- but if you do have an HDTV, you can clearly see "Macintosh Classic" printed on the front of the machine. McGee either can't read, or he has a delusional disorder of some kind that prevents him from properly recognizing vintage Mac gear. Later in the episode, he gets taunted for his childhood Macloverdom. It's just trouble from Jump Street on down.

McGee also unloads a PowerBook Duo and a nondescript PC laptop from his magic box. You can see the entire video, including the SE/Classic flub, in the continuation of this post.

You people are downright rude, bad language, vulgar remarks. I don't mind reading about MACS and the issues with NCIS, I think that is kind of fun. But backside virginity issues don't belong on these comment boards.

Get a life.

I too would have sat right up and said 'FAIL'.

Plus, every Mac geek worth his salt knows the SE/30 is where it's at. Too pull out of a box anything else is just half-assed. Owning a standard SE instead of an SE/30 made one feel inadequate... envious...

NCIS is the name of the show. NCIS is the *full* name of the show. Yes, NCIS is an abbreviation, but it doesn't really matter...since the show is called simply "NCIS."

Perhaps the very beginning of the article, where the author said: "I don't really watch NCIS, truth be told -- my wife does, and I nod appreciatively when the situation calls for it. I was half-watching tonight's episode" - Should have clued you in to the fact that NCIS is a television show.

Sorry, it's a pet peeve when people bitch about something when it turns out they're just being dense.

Maybe they should create a GUI interface in Visual Basic to track an IP address to figure out what model that Mac truly is. NCIS fails again.

To people who are saying it doesn't matter, and that TUAW should be ashamed by posting this..le'ts just put this in perspective:

It's like having a gamecube on the table and calling it a Nintendo 64, and talking about it as if you know what you're talking about. Bottom line, Apple or not, fans of the system (or anyone with half a brain) would cry out that they were wrong and rightfully so. So no, this is not a reason why people hate Apple fans, as this type of reaction would be had by fans of ANY computer/system of any kind. Heck, my friend knew it wasn't an SE, and he knows as much about Macs as I do about French pastries (very little)

Bottom line, stop with the hate trolling and move on with your lives. If you don't like an article, DON'T READ IT!

I saw it last night, and it made me really irritated! Because, first, it is obviously a classic, and second, he picked it up as if it weighed .5lbs. And third! Look how clean it is! Look how clean his old laptops were! Why can't I have clean computers like that! My SE is ridiculously yellow, and my laptops are all bunged up!

I enjoy NCIS. I also used to enjoy JAG before it. They made a faux pas, no more.

I'm with you Mike. I enjoy both of these shows.

Television and movies have inconsistencies all the time, it's the reality of the industry. The fact that you found one doesn't warrant any sort of special attention.

It's fiction for God's sake.
The accuracy is not necessary in a fictional television series or movie. Medical precision is not required for "facts" in House M.D. series.
And men can't fly Superman!

FYI, that's not what cognitive dissonance means. Please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance for its proper usage.
