Your MacBook needs a wooden case
We've written about some elaborate hardware and accessories, like the golden iPod and the gilded MacBook Air case. While this is less extravagant, it isn't your average laptop case either. The truly beautiful and aptly-named Wooden Laptop Case is lined with leather and features a magnetic enclosure. There's a model for both the 15" MacBook and MacBook Pro. We haven't seen one in person, but it definitely looks beautiful in the publicity photos.
No pricing or shipping information is shared. Instead, you're asked to contact the designer for that information. And just like seeing "Market Price" on a restaurant menu, we know what that means. It ain't cheap.
If you grab one of these beauties, please let us know.

I'll go ahead and say it now for those who feel the need to comment that they saw this elsewhere earlier today: shut up.
This case looks deceptively simple, but as a woodworker myself I can say there was a lot of forethought about design and clearly was made by an excellent craftsman.
Bye now.

It does look like a nice case. I wonder if you can get it build using other kinds of wood? Zebra, Purple heart, bamboo even.

Wow, a 15" MacBook!? That one's new, isn't it? Did Obama announce it at his inauguration?

He brought back the Black MacBook...?
(No racism intended at all. I was making a comment relating to his skin colour. I am in no way suggesting that there is anything wrong with being black. If I was in the US I would have voted for him. Etcetera.)

"This was on Gizmodo! And I saw inauguration coverage, on, like, eight different sites today! What's going on?!"

Beautiful woodwork and lovely execution. But a wooden case to take out and bang up? For an outrageous sum of money? Really?

These are interesting. But it almost motivates me to write a HOWTO to show people how to make their own.
It looks like roughly 1/4" tops and bottoms that are simply glued and pinned to the thicker sides. But if that's the case, the tops would be very fragile. It would be better to use some type of ply with veneer. That would prevent the corners from being rounded int he current design because the ply would show, so I would set the tops and bottoms in a rabbit on each side.
Pre-finishing the inside with leather is interesting.

The least you can say is that it's very exclusive and distinctive-looking :)
Maybe a small poll: what is your favourite and most fashionable case?

Totally useless:
* No clasp (magnetic catch only)
* No carrying handle
* Nowhere to carry the peripherals (power adapter, etc.)
* Nowhere to carry anything else (documents, etc.)
* Unprotected, square corners
* Probably heavy
Essentially, you are not going to take this anywhere - which pretty much destroys the whole point of a MacBook. Rainer Spehl would be better off working on how to make Apple's fixed devices like the Mac mini, server, Apple TV, or Airport base station look like coffee tables and chess boards without overheating.

Sounds like you want something more like a travel case. This looks like something to put in your office or car to conceal your MacBook, yet still keep it looking pretty. I doubt the creator designed it for ease of travel. If you don't like it, then don't compare it to something it's not.
