Twitterrific 3.2 squashes bugs, adds small features
Twitterrific, from our friends at the Iconfactory, has been updated to version 3.2: the first update for the desktop version of the small-footprint Twitter client in nearly a year.
This new version accurately marks old tweets as read when the software starts, and adds "in reply to" IDs to @ messages so conversations can be more easily tracked.
Also, Twitterrific now uses the more secure HTTPS protocol to communicate with the Twitter servers. Using a proxy server is now more reliable, along with other changes to the network and communication foundation. A complete list of the changes is available on the Iconfactory website.
Twitterrific comes in two flavors: one is free, but supported by ads from The Deck, and the second removes the ads, but is $15. Twitterrific requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later, and a Twitter account (obviously).
The Iconfactory also recently started tweeting themselves, and you can find them at @iconfactory. In related news, remember that you can also follow @TUAW for updates above and beyond what you read on our site, along with tweets from all our contributors, too.

I left Twitterrific for EventBox. Twitter, RSS feeds, Facebook and Flickr in one! I love multi-taskers.

Twitterrific is stale. I too have left it for EventBox. The HUD is much better, although I prefer the main window. Unless Twitterrific innovates heavily, it's not going to survive. Btw, I found a code for a discount on Eventbox, not sure how long it will last though. Enter SMOKINGBOX at checkout.
Oh, and before I forget, even their iPhone market is going over to Tweetie which is royally kicking their azz.

I agree that Twitterific has lost some serious steam over the last year. It served as both my desktop and iPhone Twitter client, until I discovered Tweetdeck and Tweetie. I still have it on my iPhone, for some reason. Perhaps I'm waiting for the update that will give it the functionality of Tweetie.
I hadn't heard of Eventbox, though. I'll have to check that out.

I've lost faith in Twitteriffic a long time ago, its slow, uses up too many API calls over an hour (TweetDeck at least has throttled calls allowing you to set different times for replies and DM's) and doesn't allow for a full featured history like other clients.
That said the iPhone app has a slow-gui, it jumps all over the place. Ultimate replacement for the iPhone app is clearly Twitterfon.
I must give Eventbox a go!

I actually really like Twitterific. Nice simple Twitter client to pull up on demand and hide away quickly. I haven't heard of Eventbox, I will definitely have to check that out! Twinkle on the iPhone is my favorite though.

The program has fallen behind, try Tweetie and you'll be amazed at how packed with features, user friendly and robust a twitter app can be.
Twitterific was good, I and others started out with it, but there are so many other twitter apps out now that are being aggressively developed.

Tweetie is an iPhone application. This post is about the desktop version of Twitterific.

Twitterific won't even work on my MacBook Pro anymore, no matter what I do to try to fix it, it always crashes and requires a force quit. I left it for Tototl.
