Apple Store is down, maybe a new shuffle?

Yes, the Apple Store is currently down -- which either means new gear on the way or nothing at all. We'll keep you posted. Engadget is suggesting (via MacRumors) it'll be a 4GB iPod shuffle. Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

The mac voice doesn't sound too shabby but the windows voice is hideous. This must mean that iTunes converts the title to an audio tag when syncing tracks to the shuffle.

You will be locked into having to purchase Apple Earbuds or wait till 3rd party manufacturer come out with an equivalent. The point is that something thats suppose to be as simple as a shuffle, now your left having to buy "special" earbuds.

March 11 2009 at 8:52 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYeah it's very... interesting. Sounds to me like Apple wants to corner the market on headphones. You'll need headphones that have controls on them to use the new shuffle. Maybe Apple is trying to force headphone manufacturers to start including this on their products.

Oh yeah - all the controls have been moved to the earphone cable, so the shuffle is basically a rectangular piece of metal with a clip and a hold switch.
Previous generation shuffles are being sold alongside it, too - it's not being retired (yet).
rumors were right...new shuffle is here
