Apple Store is down, maybe a new shuffle?

Yes, the Apple Store is currently down -- which either means new gear on the way or nothing at all. We'll keep you posted. Engadget is suggesting (via MacRumors) it'll be a 4GB iPod shuffle. Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Geez, enough with the tablets already. Show of hands, Who here has actually used one? Why do people want them so badly?

There probably won't be anything huge. I personally believe a new shuffle would be a probably release today. Apple would have a huge Tuesday announcement and keynote if they were releasing a tablet or netbook or anything big like that

Unless the new shuffle has a screen, wtf can they do to it? Who wants to shuffle through more gb's of songs? I think shit "shuffle" gimmick needs to die already, give it a screen or give it death I say.

Actually, if a user has a library filled with iTunes Plus/Amazon MP3 songs, then the 4 GB shuffle will have the same amount of tracks in it as the 2 GB shuffle filled with normal iTunes Store music purchases. Seems smart of Apple to get out of ahead of the trend of people upgrading their iPod storage size in order to better handle larger track sizes...

New 4 GB shuffle - in black and silver - and it speaks your songs and playlist names to you. Oh yeah - all the controls have been moved to the earphone cable, so the shuffle is basically a rectangular piece of metal with a clip and a hold switch.
Previous generation shuffles are being sold alongside it, too - it's not being retired (yet).

Yeah it's very... interesting. Sounds to me like Apple wants to corner the market on headphones. You'll need headphones that have controls on them to use the new shuffle. Maybe Apple is trying to force headphone manufacturers to start including this on their products.
