Frozen iPod returns from the grave

Incredibly, though, once taken home, cleaned up, and given a warm cup of tomato soup and a grilled cheese, it started right back up again. Everything was completely intact -- he says it even displayed the correct date. Pretty impressive for Apple's little music player (and mine's even stuffed in a Vaja case, so I know it'll always run for me -- assuming I don't drop it in a pile of snow somewhere).
He says there is a name on the iPod, so if you've been around the Whitehorse area and have recently dropped your iPod near a place called Takhini School, leave him a note and he will probably be able to get it back to you. But do it quick -- he's giving things about a week, and then it's finder's keepers. We don't blame him: who wouldn't want an indestructible iPod?

I was in Norway recently and my friend found an iPod touch 1g in the snow. It had a big crack on the screen but the next day he turned it on and it worked!

Apple makes some quality stuff. My iPhone has spent a night in a washing machine and worked a week later after spending some time in a bag of rice.

theoretically all electronics will operate after getting wet. you have to power it down completely, let it air dry thoroughly for like 24 hours and after the enclosed circuitry is dry it should work when powered up.
this applies in this case - i mean our cars have computers and they are out in the snow all year long.

They really do! a psycho ex tried to break my ipod touch and he couldn't do it ha. All he managed to do was put 2 vertical cracks. I gave it to my sister when I purchased my iphone and she still uses it.
I always giggle when I see those apps that simulate a cracked screen, I seriously don't think it's possible....unless you ran over it with a car.

Yes, but our cars' computers are encased in water- and airtight enclosures, not just a plastic snap-together case.
And they don't have hard drives, which contain a myriad of moving parts.

Could be an older 5G one, but from that angle, they're indistinguishable from the newer iPod Classic.

Click on the source and look at the interface.
It's an iPod Classic.
Maybe look around before you speak.

I hate to be a know it all too, but Apple have never produced a product called the iPod video. The first with video was simply called the iPod.

And my friend's Zune couldn't even handle a leap year in his pocket under a normal climate.

I found a shuffle in an airline seat back and called Apple with the serial number. They contacted the owner and it was returned. Didn't even know it was missing. That should work for the iPod Classic if there is an account associated with the device.

I had dropped my ipod nano (1g) in the snow. Lost it for months. Found it (before the thaw) and it still works. It was inside an iSkin case, so now I'll always put 'em in those.
Why not look up the name on the back of the iPod in the phone book and see if he can tell you what songs are on the thing? He or she may not read TUAW.
