New Safari beta update
Gee, quite a day for Apple software updates. Apple has put out an update to Safari beta 4, and the Leopard version requires OS X 10.5.7 which was just released today. There is also a version for Tiger that requires OS X 10.4.11 and security update 2009-002.Here is a download link. As is often the case with Apple, no details on what this brings. I installed and used it for awhile and nothing new jumped out at me. The installer also comes with an uninstaller in case things get ugly. Let us know what you see, or don't see.
Thanks to Barry for spotting this update.

Has anyone else had problems with gmail offline? I simply get the loading screen and no progress except for a no internet connection error in the activity window. Anyone have success with Gmail offline/Google gears and the new Safari beta?

May 13 2009 at 2:25 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've been using 10.5.7 with Safari beta update all day on three Macs - no problems and opening Top Sites is much faster - in fact it's now instant when before the update it took seconds.
I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but a huge bug (at least to me) that they seemed to have fixed (knock on wood) was when I would open pdfs within the browser anytime I used the scroll wheel on my mouse the browser would crash. It appears that the new version fixed that.
btw I am using the windows version.
OK... class listen up!
Class!
Koslowski pay attention!
Ok... when you are shifting from one major release - like say oh, 10.5.whatever to 10.5.7 (which probably be the last fix or release until Snow Leopard), you may want to do what has been suggested over and over and over again...
One - at least repair permissions (using Onyx or some other management utility may even make it spiffier).
Two - make it spiffier (See "One")
Three - reboot
Four - download the updates directly from Apple - do not use the Software Update... headache on your system. It will download faster and be a cleaner download. Proven fact.
Five - open disk image - click on install
Six - read a good book, mow the lawn, do the dishes or all of these.
Seven - Reboot your system, like the installer tells you to do
Eight - once you can see your desktop - repair permissions again
Nine - reboot
Ten - if you are running the Beta Safari - follow the above steps (most especially download directly from Apple)
When I did all of this, I had no problems and my install of Safari Beta did not kill the mods... Saft doesn't work but that is normal for a few days.
Cheers!
I am happy with Safari 3.1.1
Beta 4 adds a lot of "bugs". And the "Clear history" confirmation is damn annoying !!
Does Live Messenger work properly now with the update?

What I wanted to say:
I still see problems with editing articles in a Wordpress blog (for example, Safari freezes if you try to add a link). This problem has been fixed in the WebKit nightlies for quite some time.
I didn't find that safari froze - only that the page froze. A page reload helped (although I still couldn't add a link)
May 13 2009 at 2:40 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYeah, you are right -- but still, the current beta is not really useable if you want to edit your Wordpress blog. As I said before, the Webkit nightlies work fine.

However, changing your email address is a really unpleasant thing (I know since I once made the mistake of using my ISP's mail address), so I would only use a service like MobileMe if I was very sure that I will be able to and will want to afford it for a long time.
The better alternative IMHO is to use a service which provides your own domain, which will enable you to switch the provider without having to change your mail address.
