The updates keep coming from Apple today. Security Update 2009-002 for Tiger is now available, both
Intel and
PPC. According to Apple, this update "...is recommended for all users and improves the security of Mac OS X. Previous security updates have been incorporated into this security update." It's nice to know what's being installed on your Mac, isn't it?
The Intel download is 165MB while the PPC version is just 75MB. As usual, if you notice anything especially good or bad after installing this update, please let us know.

Is this working for anyone?
It says my download cannot be saved and the file has been corrupted or tampered with...

yeah i had the same problem too

I had no problem downloading/installing via Software Update.
The one improvement that I have noticed is that the Startup Disk control panel now recognized my Windows 7 RC disk which I created using Boot Camp. Before the update it did not recognize it, even though it had previously recognized and booted from the same disk with Windows Vista installed. This is a big deal for me since I use the Apple Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and holding the option key does not work to choose the boot volume. Way to go Apple!

They provide a SHA1 checksum for verifying the download. But my (otherwise fully updated) Tiger install doesn't have 'sha1sum' on it... Mildly inconvenient.

You can easily verify sha1sums on Tiger using the FREE OSS openssl already included in Tiger.
1. Open Terminal.
2. Type the following at the terminal prompt: /usr/bin/openssl sha1 [full path to file]
Example: /usr/bin/openssl sha1 /Users/test/Documents/1024SecUpd2003-03-03.dmg
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1652

@Rob
Thanks for that. It did seem very un-Apple-like for the tool not to be already on the box, but I guess I've been using Linux too much and got too used to having a 'sha1sum' binary.

I started the download/installation process before I left for work and when I got home, I was also told that there was a problem. I tried it again and it installed just fine. Must've been an early hickup, or something.

Hi,
I installed the update in my intel mac-mini running on tiger and now I cannot access the computer anymore...
After bootup the login screen appears but session doesn't start correctly and falls back to the login screen after a while! I re-installed from DVD (keeping user settings and data) but this didn't help.
Did anyone find the same problem and fixed it?
many thanks!

When I put my computer to sleep, it goes into a coma.

Are people being serious here? (Jeffrey your comment is a dead giveaway of facetiousness.)
Were there actually problems? I have a PPC, Tiger G4, and I experienced no problems - but then I don't notice any changes.

yes I am, and still didn't solve the problem.
I restarted in single user mode, mounted an external drive and made a backup of all my data. If nobody shows up with a better solution I'll try to reinstall all from scratch.

Hi all!
After installing Security Update 2009-002 on Macbook Intel 2.1 I can't boot, I tried lots of combinations, 1 week dedicated to try and try. Finally I installed Ubuntu but I still can't boot with CD Installation Disk. I had Bootcamp installed with Ubuntu. Maybe this update affects my EFI firmware?

PPC 10.4.11 - Mac hangs on gray Apple Screen after 2009-002 update. Tried all the common fixes - No peripherals, Safe Boot, Repair with Disk Utility, FSCK - nevr ets to Log In screen.
May have to 'Archive ansd Install' - what a pain...

At the end I recovered my installation by starting in safe mode (command-s at boot time), booting with "sh /etc/rc", installing updates again via command line (with command "sofwareupdate -i -a") and then creating a new user (also with command line, using a script copied from http://www.geektimes.com/macintosh/os/x/10_3/and/add_user_script.html). Now my intel mac-mini is back up running OS X 10.4.11. Hope this can help anyone with similar problems (cfr. my first post).
