TUAW Review: RadTech ProCable Shortz
RadTech manufactures a lot of accessories for the iPhone and iPod, but one recently caught my attention. The recently released ProCable Shortz cables are handy in tight places where you need a USB to 30-pin connector cable. I use mine in my car to hook up my iPhone to the stereo via a USB cable. Before the ProCable Shortz, I had a regular sized 30-pin cable and it took over my glove box with a tangle of wires. These cables can also come in handy when you want to charge or sync your iPhone/iPod with your MacBook, but don't want a tangled nest of wires sitting beside you on the desk. The RadTech ProCable Shortz come in many flavors, but the most recently released USB to 30-pin iPod connector cables come in two sizes and two colors. You can pick up these cable in either 7-cm or 20-cm lengths, and either in white or black. The build quality is similar to Apple's own cables, and in some ways the cabling seems stronger. Prices are not terrible either: Only $7.95-US for the 7-cm cable or $8.95-US for the 20-cm cable. Compare that to Apple's $19.00 US dock connector cable. The ProCable Shortz are available on the RadTech website.

Or compare $1.53 at monoprice for a full sized cable. What morons would fall for this? It's probably 20c worth of connectors and cable.

I love Monoprice and their cables, but the word is that their iPod cables do not work at lot of the time. Sucks.

I have a monoprice cable that doesn't work with my iPhone. Works fine with iPods, but no luck with the iPhone. Just sayin'.

One who didn't want to carry a full-sized cable? Moron.
I used to carry a "Link 360" on my keychain, it was wonderful until it fell apart. Looks like this will make a fine and more durable replacement.

I need to carry several different cables with me when I travel, so I'm always on the lookout for short versions of the old standards. I found a company called ZioTek which has a very nice collection of short USB, power and iPod cables: http://www.ziotek.com/Templates/SearchProducts.asp?categoryID=35&curpage=1&rows=ALL

Just how does one connect a 3G iPhone to a stereo with a USB cable?

Well you first need a stereo that accepts USB input. Then you use an ordinary iPhone cable. That's what I do with my Alpine iDA X100.

Has anyone ever made an ethernet adapter for wired internet connection?
I'm surprised I have never seen that since it comes really handy when you travel if a hotel you're staying only offers wired internet connection.

Another short one, which is widely available for next to nothing: http://bit.ly/141ZYA
I prefer the cheap retractable ones you can get off of ebay, less clutter.

I see they also sell an extension cable. I'm glad somebody's selling this these days. A few years ago, when I had a car with no minijack input and an FM transmitter that refused to stay connected, I would have loved to have that. It's absolutely necessary with some cases too.

Shortened one of my cables with a series of knots: http://yfrog.com/dzimg0301xj
I forget what that knot is called.

Hey THJ, I don't know about the monoprice short cables, but one of my friends gets all his cables from Scott Walker Audio(http://www.scottwalkeraudio.com/ ). He says they have all types and kinds of cables available. You can check it out.
