Apple delivers Airport Utility Update
It has been a busy few days for Apple in the software update domain. iWork '09, iTunes, and Quicktime have all been updated, along with GarageBand.Today, Apple is pushing out an Airport Utility software update. With the usual great and patented Apple detail, the update:
"..includes general fixes and compatibility updates for the following applications: AirPort Utility and AirPort Base Station Agent. The update also installs AirPort Disk Utility on Macs running Tiger." There is also an update of the Airport Utility for Windows.
The new software is 18.9 MB, and does not require a restart. Hooray.
Thanks to Mikey for the tip.

Nope, this update adds a new feature that bakes you a cookie every time you connect to a network.

Seems like a pie might be more appropriate...

I hope that with this update I can update my airport extreme (gigabit ethernet) base station to the latest firmware. Anyone with the same problem?

Francisco:
I have a version of that problem. The latest Time Capsule firmware made my network invisible to some (not all) devices that worked perfectly before. I downgraded back to the previous firmware.

I've installed the Airport Utility update and ... it doesn't fix the problem for me.
If same thing happens to you, I'd urge you to file a "bug report" (as I have) if you haven't already. As the discussion-board link above shows, many people have had similar problems, so if we file reports, hopefully there will be a fix in our future.
Here's the bug report thingy :

Honestly I would steer clear of the current 7.4.1 firmware. I updated my Time Capsule to it (tried twice actually), and both times it hosed my wireless network. Even after reconfiguring from scratch, I could only connect through ethernet. There are a bunch of forum posts about this issue and as far as I know there is no fix. I would advise waiting for the next update.

Sorry for the duplicate comment. Once again didn't refresh before posting. I had the exact same issue as jp.

JP:
I tried again with the new airport utility. Same feedback but this time, I thought what if I after I install the update, install the firmware update (which is by now like 3 months old) and configure it with minimum settings (no security for instance). It worked. Then I went back to Airport Utility and configured the network again (WPA2 this time) and it worked again. Then put my MobileMe info... and it worked fine.
Shall I say the update to the airport utility fixed my problem or it was the way I installed the firmware that made it, I'm not sure. Will see how it behaves during testing in windows machines but for now, it's quite stable with both iphone and mac.

Got to say, WPA2 won't work with some HP laptops... 7.4.1 worked fine but that little detail. I panicked cause it wouldn't work and after a downgrade and a no go from that little windows nightmare, realized it might be the wireless settings... tomorrow I will try again.
cheers

Francisco: Wow that's kind of wacky. I just tried what you did (updating everything, setting "no security" etc.) and no joy. So I downgraded again to previous firmware which is my happy place.
Johnny: Agree.
Everyone: If you suffer this issue too, please do file the bug report (link above) in hopes of encouraging a fix. Zillion thanks to all.

Might be a coincidence, but I had to manually restart my airport extreme after this update ran. None of my Macs would connect to it, despite the green light indicating that all was well.
All is fine now, but probably worth pointing out as it's never happened to me before.

@JP: I forgot one single detail. After I upgraded the firmware, the AEBS (Airport Extreme Base Station) wouldn't restart itself. So I did a hard reset to factory settings (holding the reset button while pluging the AEBS to the power, for about 10 seconds or until the light flashed). then configured it with no security, then reconfigured it with the security and then the rest as it was told at first.
Then again, I'm not absolutely positive about how it worked with the windows machine... I'll keep you informed.
Cheers!

I was befuddled after returning from a short vacation only to find the our Apples could not access the internet, my list of networks were invisible and nothing seemed to work. I turned everything off and on, although I did not hard reset my Airport base station. Meantime, I ended up hard wiring my MacBook to my cable modem just to hook up. Apple help told me to restart the modem. It would seem that they would know the fix to an update problem.

Ever since installing this update, my MacBook Pro has been unable to connect to the internet, although it can connect to my airport network just fine. My iMac (not updated yet, and won't be until I get this fixed) can get internet, it's on the same network. I've tried rebooting all three devices (MBP, iMac, Airport Express) to no avail.
Anyone else getting this problem/Know how to fix it?
