WWDC Live: Jon Gotow of St. Clair Software
I was excited to speak with Jon Gotow of St. Clair Software, creator of Default Folder X, which is an invaluable tool to me. He is also an important voice in the OpenMeta debate and evolution happening right now, which will get its own article in the near future. He attended WWDC with his son, Ben Gotow, and had a lot to say about the state of Apple and looking forward. Continue reading for the video.
Update: This video has been moved to YouTube and is now watchable.

Is this video stuttering for anyone else or is it just my connection?

Not just you, I'm working on the issue right now. Check back later today, hopefully everything will be much more "watchable".

I was hoping Default Folder X would be ready for the new OS, so this is great news. The extra clicks and scrolls this saves every single time I go to a save/open dialog has probably added years to my life.

As Brett wrote in the post, Default Folder X is really an invaluable tool that I simply cannot live without. Everyone should check it out.

One thing I tell you right now is the lack of consistency with metadata representation in Apple products, In know they adhear to standards like ID3 and IPTC but when I tag a music/movie file in iTunes and it writes to the Album Author field and then look at that file outside of iTunes and in the OS environment only not to see the embedded data on the info panel (cmd+I) but its still there it leaves me disconcerted.
Similarly silly things like a 255 char cap in the comments field when written via iTunes (with no char count indicator or documentation of this) so when saved on the first 255 chars are embedded, yet editing in QuickTime Pro you can save as much as you'd like.
Also converting e.g. from WMV to MOV how the user entered metadata is not passed on is a scandal, I think the OpenMeta debate is something for Apple to definitely concentrate on!
