Software Updates: And the hits keep coming, Bluetooth Firmware Update

I guess the iPhone 3.0 update and Safari 4.0.1 weren't enough for Apple. Along with the just released update to Safari, Apple has just tossed in one more Software Update:
Bluetooth Firmware Update
"This update provides bug fixes and better compatibility with the Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard. It installs on all Macintosh systems with Bluetooth based on the Broadcom chipset."
This update is only applicable to certain hardware configurations (as noted above), so if you don't see it, you don't need it. After running, the Bluetooth Firmware update will provide you with an installation screen and require a reboot when it's done.
I wonder if Apple will throw us any other new surprises today.

actually, this is a sneaky way to show people that part of the tethering issue was sneaked into BT firmware, where no one would think to look.

I updated Safari 4.0.1+Bluetooth at the same time, and had some odd issues. A number of saved passwords were lost (in both Safari and system... I had to re-add my wireless network manually and my Airport Extreme was undetected in Airport utility until I did), and my clock was reset to sometime in 2001, but after the second restart everything was okay.

Better than me. My Mac is dead - ironically, showing a blue screen with a endlessly spinning spinner.

It still resets customized toolbars every time you close the browser

Are file transfers over bluetooth now enabled to devices other than ipods or other iphones ?
Can it now pair and work with devices other than audio (headphones) and Apple products?
How much has the bluetoth stack been opened up anyone ?

You're talking about BT in OS X, right? Because I've been able to sync my phone with OS X via Bluetooth since at least 10.4, whether it be Moto (ugh), SonyEricsson (yeah!), or Nokia (YEAH!)
I think you're thinking of OS 3.0

I am an idiot .... yep you are right . I thought this was BT info for the new iphone update, got carried away skipping from article to article.
That teaches me , I should read the whole damn article not just the headline.

The BT update fixes the iPhone Tethering issue on new (unibody MB,MBP,MBA) laptops. Before this firmware update BT tethering would disconnect after just a few Kbs of data xfer - since the update, it seems to be flawless. I've tested this on a MB & MBA.

(Well damn you 1password, you have failed me)
I hope this actually does fix the narcoleptic Mighty Mouse issues, mine constantly falls asleep in the middle of doing something, and is instantly fixed by opening the bluetooth preference pane.

I experience exactly the same thing along with on again, off again, flakey recognition of the bluetooth keyboard.
As people are saying, it could be a 'getting ready for iPhone' thing. But I'm hoping.

What are the odds these updates are not compatible with tiger? I do not see any updates in Software Update on my tiger machines.

Damn it! My Wireless Keyboard stills drops it's connection if I leave my MacMini more than 5 feet. How is this possible, since the Wireless Mighty Mouse works even 15 feet away?

You're still doing better than my old wireless keyboard that came with my iMac. It has a range of about 2 feet at the most.

Does anyone else have an issue where if you are downloading a file from the internet (regardless of the size), the bluetooth for the wireless mighty mouse as well as the keyboard gets very stuttered and jittery? If so, anyone got a fix?
I'm running the late 2008 MBP Unibody, 10.5.7.

my apple wireless keyboard and mighty mouse do not disconnect or lag during TimeMachine backups anymore. Bluetooth does not randomly wake my Unibody MBP any longer.
so far so good!

No BT connection drops for app. 48 hours. Then they returned.
Ah, nothing but a good old "sudo killall -HUP blued" in Terminal.app to get my BT mouse back on track...
