3.0 update brings Street View, 'Find' functionality to iPod touch
iPod touch users are finally getting a taste of what iPhone users have had since iPhone OS 2.2: Google Street View. iPhone 3.0 Software Update for iPod touch includes an update to the Maps application that enables Google Street View, and it works just like it does on the iPhone.
Additionally, the "Find my iPhone" feature is implemented as "Find my iPod touch" for iPod touch users. It works exactly like Megan described yesterday, but is perhaps less accurate than using the iPhone's built-in GPS. It'll at least get you close, so long as it's connected to a Wi-Fi network. If it is, you can send messages to the iPod touch and wipe its memory.
If you do send a message to an iPod touch that's turned off or not connected to a Wi-Fi network, the message is queued until it's on and connected.
Both features appear to work on both first- and second-generation iPod touch devices. As Megan mentioned, since the first-generation iPod touch lacks a speaker, it won't make the "ping" noise associated with Find my iPhone unless you have speakers plugged in. Perhaps less useful for finding it in the house, but still helpful if you left it on a table at the park.
Have you found an undocumented feature that the iPhone 3.0 Software Update for iPod touch provides? Let us know by tipping us, or leaving a comment.
Thanks, Harold, Ben, Rocky, and everyone who sent this in!

there's a new way to terminate apps - holding the screenlock button until the read slider appears and then release the screenlock button and press and hold the home button until the app quits (before it was just holding the home button for about 6 secs)
also there is a built in search in mail like it is in adressbook, also the stopwatch has a new small timer to get better results.

Tried Find my iPod touch last night after the upgrade. I guess this is a commentary on WiFi in Omaha.... it misjudged my location by about 50 blocks.

Can't find my iPod at all, says I must have the Wi Fi switched off. I'm connected to my home Wi Fi and I'm sat looking at the bloody thing switched on right now!

Here is a site that has an abundance of links to reviews and articles explaining the release of 3G S to impressions of the 3.0 update on the original iPhone. http://pfx.me/vC

BTW.... I briefly did flips of joy when all my Mail notes suddenly appeared on my iPod (I use notes in Mail more than I care to admit), but joy turned to grief when I realized I couldn't sync iPod-created notes back to Mail. Am I doing something wrong, or is that just the way it is?

Never mind. I quit and restarted Mail and there they were. Call me Dr. Fullbright.

iPod touch update in Canada
Can’t get the ipod touch 3.0 update
“ipod software update server could not be found”
Went thru the apple store and seemed to go fine until last page where download button was not there…the page told me if it didnt show to go back to my ipod page and hit the update button again….got the same error…the error message popped immediately as if it didnt even look for the server….itunes store works fine…can download songs.
called apple support canada…they said it was busy plus two of the servers in canada are down…anyone else in this exact situation?….my fingers are getting cramped from hitting that update button so often…been going on since yesterday afternoon…

I noticed in the Clock application's Stopwatch that there is now a "total" time in addition to the individual lap/splits.
Also, more custom field support in Contacts (particularly IM, although not Twitter)

This is for touch and iPhones
Safari has a change in the bookmarks
if u have enough bookmarks to scroll down, and let's say you choose the last bookmark. If you let the site load, and browse around, once you go back into bookmarks, you are brought to the top of your list, or top of the list in whatever bookmark folder you were in.
Kind of annoying for me as I like the memory of where I was in my list of bookmarks.
Illwait for someone to come out with a toggle for that in the jailbreak scene.

One of the features I really like is that if you play a song, lock the iPod and then hit the button to show the slide to unlock screen, the title of the track is now much smaller, and should allow even long song titles to show in their entirety. No more of this
"Fell in Love with a Gi.." nonesense.

After updating, around 20 podcasts from Jan. that I deleted reappeared. Not a new feature, but I'm sure deleting them again cleared up some space on my first gen.

I was just looking for it om my 1st gen iphone. I don't see street view as an option either

When you search for an address that is in an area with street view, a little orange dot with a person in it shows to the left of the placemarks' description. That takes you into street view.
