Safari 4.0.2 released
Fire up Software Update, Apple just released Safari 4.0.2!
As usual, the release notes are extremely informative (laugh), stating:
This update is recommended for all Safari users and improves the stability of the Nitro JavaScript engine and includes the latest compatibility and security fixes.
Looking a the actual security announcement, this is is one update you're going to want to install. One of the security fixes addresses potential cross-site scripting attacks, via WebKit's handling of parent and top objects. The other fix addresses memory allocation for numeric character references, which if exploited, could allow arbitrary code execution or application termination after visiting a malicious site.
These issues affect Mac OS X and Windows XP and Vista, so everyone, download your Safari updates!
As usual, you will have to restart your computer after installation.

Seriously, rebooting to update Safari/Webkit is annoying.
Safari 3 use also webkit and has no need to reboot.
Perhaps (has Doug explain) webkit is now a .kext but it's not a good design for such a library. It's user disturbance, bad user experience...
I still miss the loading bar under the url. I thought that was an incredibly clever idea.
I'd also like to see the tabs moved back to the top, as in S4 beta, and the old blue RSS button back.
Stability is nice, but what I really want is to be able to turn on the upper tabs we got in the Safari Beta 4. Is there any world from Cupertino that we're going to get these back?

July 09 2009 at 9:55 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI know I sound like a stubborn coot, but I'm not upgrading until we get an option to put the tabs back on top. Safari 4 Beta 2 run with nightly Webkit builds has been treating me well so far.

Just a little observation right there.
Yay for stability! As soon as I updated & restarted I fired up Safari and it crashed! S4 is really bad!

P.S.
I've been a devoted to Apple since I first got my Performa 6200, OS 7.5.1. I've dabbled a bit with other Macs, + newer software for Macs. Thru the years I've never had to work so hard on the Mac platform like I do with Windows.
God bless & all a good niter.
