Rumor: Chinese manufacturers building cases (with cameras) for new iPod touch, nano

Apparently these guys heard about the dimensions back in May, and they're so certain of the information that they're shipping samples and taking orders from US retailers. True or not? We have no idea -- certainly there's enough photos of the new cases on Cult of Mac's site to be convinced, and that Apple would release new versions of popular iPods right before back to school and the holidays isn't just believable, it's business as usual.
But the camera on there is the interesting move -- is it a video or still camera? Why is the iPod touch's camera centered instead of offset like every other iPhone camera? Will there be new software capabilities for taking and sharing pictures on these devices? That's all still up in the air. We guess we'll find out in a few months.

I realize that everyone will just say it is for a lanyard, but...
Anyone else noticed that every one of these rumored nano cases has two little holes at the bottom? Surely, lanyards are not that popular?
Discuss.

I sorta figured one hole is the camera and the other is the mic if it is going to also do video...

TUAW, although you do a great job, I really think that you, as well as every other Apple site, should consider not posting news obtained from Chinese manufacturers, due to the tragic story of the Foxconn employee who is no longer here.

Why should they refrain from posting just because some guy killed himself? Don't people do that just about every day?

Also, that iPod touch is a 2G (or possibly a 3G) but it's running OS1...?
SKEPTICAL

It really doesn't look like a real iPod Touch, it looks like one of those paper inserts they put in the cases to sell at retail.

Maybe its a camera with flash on the iPod Touch, who knows.

Does anyone else think that the nano's screen looks larger than the current one? It just looks taller to me. And also, the click wheel looks closer to the screen than the one on the current nano.

Yeah, a 3:2 screen is the rumor du jour (aside from the camera) about the nano 5g. (The 4g has a 4:3 screen

"Why is the iPod touch's camera centered instead of offset like every other iPhone camera?"
because the wifi antenna is in the way of where the camera is placed compared to the iphone. so if it is to be moved, why NOT center it?
BTW, it's not centered on the iphone due to the placement of the SIM card.
brain. use it.

I have to agree with Oakie here... Come on Mike, you can CLEARLY see the large spot for the WiFi antenna. There's no reason for Apple to move that around when it's been there ever since the first gen iPod Touch.
Please, don't pose questions just to have a closing to the post.
