Snow Leopard set for release on August 28th

Amid the leaks and speculation, the online Apple Store went down this morning, only to return with Snow Leopard release information -- August 28th. It also turns out that the box photo that was leaked last weekend was legit, showing the Snow Leopard on the front.

The pricing remains at $29US for a single user upgrade, or $49 for a Family Pack upgrade. You can only install the upgrade edition if you're using Leopard. If you're not, you'll need to buy the Mac Box Set, available for $169 for a single user or $229 for a Family Pack.

Before you install, check out our upgrade guide. Also, note that If you purchased a qualifying Mac on or after June 8, 2009, that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you can upgrade for $9.95.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Well, here in Switzerland, the Apple Online Store is a mystery ... it seems that everytime I order something online it get's delayed. Yet I keep on buying Apple laptops, desktops, iPhones, and other goodies because I like them !!

In today's world one should be able to buy software and simply pay for it, get a serial number, download it, burn it (optionally) and install it. But no, you have to order it or buy it in a shop.

So I ordered it on Aug 24th with a shipping date of Aug 27th. By September 7th nothing arrived so I called back and was told that I would be sent a new order by courrier service. I received an email today which confirms a delivery date of ... September 15th.

Can someone tell me what's wrong?

The big question is...

Is there going to be an evening launch party or will Snow Leopard be available when the Apple Store opens on Friday?

Good news regarding the snow leopard release!! I would like to confirm one thing though.
-I have iLife '08 on my MacBook. It came with the Leopard OS disc when I bought the MacBook.
If I upgrade to SL using the $29 option, I wont have iLife. Would I be able to use the disc that I got with Leopard to install iLife'08 on SL?

What does one do if one wants buy the full version of Snow Leopard, but does NOT want iLife or iWork? Didn't full OS versions used to sell for $129?

Is there any way for an "Up to Date" pre-order online?

I purchased a new Mac in July, through the online store. The current "up to date" link for online purchasers goes to my shopping cart, but does not put Snow Leopard in there. :(

Are "Up to Date" folks outta luck on pre-ordering? Will we only be able to order online on Aug. 28 itself?

Just a question...I have a single-user license of Leopard installed on two machines (yes, bad me) and would like to upgrade that to a Family Pack Snow Leopard (to go legit, so to say). Will that work? Or does a Family pack Upgrade only work for a Family Pack license?

Please tell me it works...else I just dumped €50 out the window...

Thanks,
Jan

Sorry to Hijack - as far as i can tell you can just buy a family pack, thats certainly what i intend to do, But just to clarify, whats the difference between the Single Licence disk and the Family Pack disk? id love to get away with a single user licence on the 2 macs i do have.

So why exactly aren't they offering a full (non-upgrade) disk with 10.6 only for $129. Why do I have to get iLife and iWork too.

Anyone think that the packaging is brutally awful?

I am sure there are many here who might think it's awful. But it's packaging and for me, pettiness is a horrible waste of time.
