Aperture updated to 2.1.4
Aperture, Apple's pro-level photo editing/management software, has been updated to 2.1.4.The software update, which weighs in at a whopping 213 MB, comes with the following fixes:
– Addresses an issue from Aperture 2.1.3 that prevented the "Do not import duplicates" option in the import window to properly detect and filter out duplicate photos.
– Addresses an issue that caused JPEG images to be compressed when uploading photos to MobileMe, even when the "Actual Size Images" option was selected.
– Addresses an issue that could cause dust jackets to render incorrectly when switching between the softcover and hardcover options with the Stock Book theme.
Aperture 2.1.4 is available now via Software Update.

214 megabytes for three bug fixes in a point-point update.
This is why Apple needs to learn what the hell the "diff" command does.

And this is why people need to realize that diffing binary files (such as the executable files inside the app bundle) is neither simple nor a good idea, especially if the app is code-signed. I'm not saying there's no potential for improvement, just pointing out that Occam's Razor doesn't necessarily apply for all things under the sun. I'm sure Apple would love to trim the bandwidth spent on pushing such updates, so I assume they don't ignore the size thereof. Put a little faith in the people behind the updates, they test them quite a bit.

I am waiting and waiting for them to come out with 3.0. Am I being totally unrealistic to think that they'll actually come out with a new version?

I hope to get 3.0 soon too...

Perhaps 2.1.4 fixes nasty crashes when it is running under SL 10.6 as well (i.e., when doing large export)?

I was hoping for this update to take advantage of some of Snow Leopard's new features.

This is sad - these are things that mostly help Apple sell more printed content through Aperture.
This app is in serious need of a thorough update.

I agree with the update to 3.0 sentiment. Aperture has too many flaws for its cost and functionality. The promise is more than the reality. It's web features show so much promise, but die in execution.

Now if they would get the fuck to work on the hair pulling teeth grinding issues with A2 and Snow leopard (particularly text fields and book layout *shudder*).

... add me to the list of people hoping that Aperture will soon get a major upgrade. It's been a year since 2.0, Lightroom is really more advanced as far as retouching tools are concerned, and the plugin architecture is sub-par in that it doesn't allow non-destructive editing like other tools.

I really like Aperture, but it is lacking big time in photo touch up options. I would really like to see some enhancements for speed as well for working with the huge 5D Mark II RAW files. I would also be nice to see some sort of integration with mobile me to have a print proofing/purchasing system. These other companies out there charge a fortune to host your materials and to buy the software on your own is crazy expensive as well!
