Current iPod SKUs are disappearing

If you're looking to own a current-generation iPod, you best buy one before they're gone. Ars Technica notes that vendors inside Apple's Authorized Reseller network are reporting that dwindling stocks aren't being met with new shipments, lending further credence to the presumption that September's press event will be about new iPods.

Apple typically introduces new iPods in September, just in time for back-to-school shopping. We've heard rumors that the whole line will get cameras, including the Classic. With 120GB of storage, that thing could hold a lot of photos. It's also quite likely that there will be a storage boost, but if the shuffle gets any smaller it'll simply cease to exist.

Personally, this just means I'll have another opportunity to call my fat nano an ancient artifact.

I'm hoping for a bigger Classic.

Specifically so I can carry my entire music collection with me.

Um, shouldn't the photo actually show the "current" iPods. You know, like the headline indicates. The 3rd gen Nano was replaced a year ago.

Kill off the classic, and the 3G shuffle. Bring back the 2G shuffle.

i love the fat nano - the new nano looks like a throwback of the original.

for the classic, i just hope they continue to have one flat price with a storage bump.

the shuffle would've been better received if they had tiny iPhone-like buttons to navigate on the model itself. the size as it is, is perfect IMO.

I'm hoping the kill the shuffle off entirely, and just lower the entry level Nano's price.

I'm surprised they'd update the classic though. I thought it'd be dead for sure by now.

I'm still hoping for a iPod Touch with decent (read: 64GB or higher) capacity. Failing that, a return of the 160GB Classic would be nice, especially since I'm starting to think my two-year-old 160GB is not long for this earth...

only if there's a new hard drive available. The reason they dropped a size last time was because the 120GB was a single platter drive and the 160GB was two.. a much thicker iPod for not much more disk space.

There is a 250GB Samsung here [http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/07/11/samsung-spinpoint-n3u-1-8-250gb-hard-drive-utilizes-native-usb-interface/] so maybe they'll make a bigger classic. If they do that maybe it could sync your iTunes library and Time machine too!

Aye! A bigger Classic!

Was about to pony up for a 160GB, then they dropped it to 120GB. I specifically wanted the 160GB so it would hold my entire music collection (which was ~135GB at the time.

If they release a bigger classic, its gonna have to be at least 250GB, to accomodate my current collection (~200GB) with room for expansion.

iPod Pequeño?

The current shuffle is a serious misstep in terms of design. It's the only music player that requires you to learn an adapted form of Morse Code to use.

Distinctly non-Apple.

There is a 97% chance of new iPods. I agree that the current gen shuffles are a step backwards from the last. Also, I love my classic; what could they possibly change to make it better other than going flash at the current prices? Haha I wish

It's the same way every year, why even talk about the possibility of new iPods coming on september 9th? Apple's buy a mac and get a free iPod offer ends september 9th, so they're giving away the old ones to make room for new ones.
