What new goodies await us on the 9th?
So, Apple has confirmed that there will indeed be an event next Wednesday, September 9th. The image on the invitations indicates iPods, or at least "music", will be the focus of the shindig. Will we see new iPods with cameras? How about iTunes 9 with some whiz-bang new social networking features? And what about that bright yellow underwater elephant in the room?
While the date is almost too tasty to pass up, I can't imagine (pun intended) that The Beatles will even be mentioned during the event. Why? The slogan the iPod silhouette girl is rockin' to is "It's only rock and roll, but I like it." Now, I'm a little younger than the relevant time period, but I've heard that neither The Rolling Stones nor The Fab Four would be thrilled with the mix up.
So, what do you think? What kind of magic are we likely to see next week?

I've heard from a reliable source that Steve has set aside the first hour to apologise for Snow Leopard.

@Dom, It'll never happen. Steve (Jobs) and Steve (Ballmer) never apologize for anything, right or wrong. They have their flunky do it.

"It's Only Rock and Roll, But I Like It" is an old Rolling Stones song from the 70's. I think it much more likely we'll get some Rolling Stones related announcements rather than the much hoped for Beatles deal. A deal with the the Stones could be a nice answer to Blackberry's recent U2 deal,

You know? I was wondering how BlackBerry got an Apple themed ad, complete with the band Apple made an iPod edition for. Seriously, WTF U2?

The date is way too synonymous with the Beatles activities, particularly the remastered albums release date.

Also this day is the release of The Beatles: Rock Band :)

09/09/09 will be remembered as the day The Beatles were Remastered (on CD), Downloaded (through iTunes, I hope), and Virtualized (in video game form).
Hell, 9/9/99 was a big day (Dreamcast, anybody?)
Maybe iPod stands for Intelligent Personal Object of Desire? I just thought I'd throw out a random statement featuring an accronym I pulled out of my ass.
As for the date, I don't think Steve could've pulled that one out of his ass... Beatles on iTunes FTW!!!

I don't understand why so many people clamor for the "privilege" of purchasing 192kbps AAC files of Beatles' recordings on the same date they could purchase CD's and rip them at 320kbps themselves, and have lovely things like liner notes and box art to actually hold in your hands while you listen.

pretty easy to guess. ipods have cameras. probably capacity bumps on all. ipod touch now has a the same processor/other specs as iphone 3gs. i think we'll see a phase out on the ipod classic. no tablet. i don't know about the beatles thing.

I'm thinking 64-bit iTunes is coming

Yes, forgot to mention that. There's no way Apple leaves their best known program running in 32-bit on Snow Leopard. I believe Windows already has x64 iTunes actually...
Jordan said 10:00PM on 8-31-2009
Yup, Windows has had 64bit iTunes since...I don't know when it's been so long.

Definitely iPods with cameras, iPod Touch spec bump, iTunes 9, NO WAY there's a Tablet. Apple is clearly saying this is a music ONLY event. The tablet can absolutely have it's own event.

iTunes 9 and iPods with cameras and capacity bumps. I agree iPod Touch same processor as iPhone 3GS.
iPod classic will remain (they aren't going to phase them out until the SSD can compete with HDD in price/size.)
I am hoping for something great with iTunes 9. Maybe a subscription based model like Zune Pass. If not, I'll be jumping ship to buy a Zune HD on the 15th. I like the idea of Zune Pass and the HD looks sweet.

The Beatles vs The Rolling Stones thing was mostly media driven. Mick Jagger and John Lennon were, in fact, pals and collaborated on a number of occasions.
So it wouldn't be entirely offensive to either party if The Beatles were, in fact, included in this announcement just because of a Rolling Stones reference in the teaser.

To be honest I think The Stones will be there to pay tribute to their British Invasion counterparts, and to help celebrate the arrival of The Beatles catalog on iTunes. The Stones and the remaining Beatles on stage together; sounds entirely plausible to me!!!

keyword is "we" (it's only rock and roll but "WE" like it. . .

Does that mean it will have Wii support? Maybe another Wii remote?
