What new goodies await us on the 9th?

So, Apple has confirmed that there will indeed be an event next Wednesday, September 9th. The image on the invitations indicates iPods, or at least "music", will be the focus of the shindig.

Will we see new iPods with cameras? How about iTunes 9 with some whiz-bang new social networking features? And what about that bright yellow underwater elephant in the room?

While the date is almost too tasty to pass up, I can't imagine (pun intended) that The Beatles will even be mentioned during the event. Why? The slogan the iPod silhouette girl is rockin' to is "It's only rock and roll, but I like it." Now, I'm a little younger than the relevant time period, but I've heard that neither The Rolling Stones nor The Fab Four would be thrilled with the mix up.

So, what do you think? What kind of magic are we likely to see next week?

What will Apple announce on September 9th?
iPods with cameras5817 (45.6%)
The Beatles available on iTunes2001 (15.7%)
iTunes 9, with social networking features2496 (19.6%)
Original 5GB iPods available for sale again791 (6.2%)
A tablet, finally!1639 (12.9%)

I think the flyer gives it away - rock and "roll", as in iPod with camera roll? :)

I wonder if they'll make the iPod classic smaller again this year. I'm holding out for a 200+GB iPod. I thought it would have came out last year, but instead they reduced the classic from 160GB to 120GB.

I'm really hoping to see quad-core iMacs. Who's with me?

I'm hoping the tablet rumours come true at some point, but I strongly doubt this is the event, unless it is just a large iPod Touch rather than a keyboard-free MacBook.

iTunes 9 and cameras in iPods seem to be the most obvious guesses, but I hope the news is something much more impressive.

iPods with cameras are cool but I buy MP3 players to listen to music so it's not exactly something I'm really looking forward too..How about some cool ways to use browse through music and maybe CoverFlow by artist, songs, album and genre...and then CoverFlow for Videos and stuff...and Flash support in Safari...some features of the new Nano in the Touch...

There's no way there'll be a Beatles announcement; especially given the Stones' strapline. I'm with you on this; who cares? I already, ahem, bought the discography. I'm sure, ahem, other people may have downloaded copies of their songs illegally but that what happens when you bite the hand that feeds you.

I personally think that apple will do something we don't expect, and that whatever it is, we will like it because it's from apple...

Reminds me of a Simpsons episode:

"People are afraid of new things. You should have just taken an existing
product and put a clock on it or something."

I hope it's more than just adding a camera to an iPod; surely they'll be more!
