Apple lists Snow Leopard-compatible printers and scanners
I'll come right out and say that I don't like scanners. Granted, I haven't used any high-end models, but in my experience, scanning a simple image to my Mac was akin to piloting a space module. As a chimp. While Mac OS X Snow Leopard includes a great number of scanner (and printer) drivers, some readers are reporting trouble with their particular machines. This week, Apple has published a list of both scanners and printers that are known to work. You can read it here. I've got an Epson R300, and luckily it's covered. Heck, even my beloved HP 952c still works under Snow Leopard. It's a comprehensive list, and we're hoping your machine is there.
Of course, if your peripheral stopped working after installing Snow Leopard, you ought to visit the manufacturer's website for an update. And by "visit" we mean "pester."

Tell me, if you update to Snow Leopard and find out your printer isn't supported (even tho they said it was) can you use Time Machine to go back to 10.5 fairly easily. Never "reverted" on something like this. I have a number of computers in my home network and if they can't print the family will be really upset.

And yet these companies seem ill prepared. yes they would have to pay to see the developer builds but really what perhaps $3000 in light of their sales each year. is it really that much.
and I love HP talking about how on Sept 9th they are going to have live help. hello, I would have to wait almost 2 weeks with little or no printer function. yeah, that really helps
Apparently my HP OfficeJet 5510 is supported, but I had to download the drivers (100MB) from HP's website, even after I had installed all the drivers off the DVD and the HP Drivers Update 2.0 (384MB) from Apple's website.
Plug and play? Not really.
Anyone know whats up with drivers for the Color LaserJet 2600n? They were pushed pretty hard at Frys for quite a while there. I am surprised it is not listed as supported. Printer setup finds nothing when I try to add it while connected to the network.

I went to Gutenprint Project pages and downloaded the latest Gutenprint for Mac (gutenprint-5.2.4.dmg) and it's working fine again (for printing only). Looks like Apple included only select drivers from 5.2.3. This is the same thing as the included drivers just one version newer and with the full set of Gutenprint drivers included, not just Apples pics.

And when it's not on the list, what do we do, just cry or buy a new one ?
Printer HP deskjet 5150
Scanner Canon Lide 50, driver - soft never updated by Canon...
No. You bug the maker of your printer and/or scanner to update the drivers for the model(s) you have. Maybe you can also send a message to Apple, through the support boards, asking them to add a driver for said model of printer and/or scanner. If that fails, then your best bet is to cry or opt to buy a new one.
September 01 2009 at 11:29 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe elimination of the vendor's often cryptic and bloated scanner interfaces and arcane setups (I speak of HP's Photosmart stuff, but others have related similar stories on their scanners) has now been replaced by the incorporation of scanning into Image Capture and also in a tab on the print dialog.
Hurray! No more launching massive programs to do what is not part of the input/output dialogs.
