HP experts to provide real-time support for Snow Leopard users on 9/9
Have you upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and found that your HP printer or All-in-one is having issues? HP announced today that experts from the company will be providing real-time support on September 9th to help you out. From 8 AM to 5 PM PDT on September 9th, 2009, HP's Mac-connect team will be monitoring the HP Mac Printing & Scanning Board (part of the HP Support Forums). HP customers who post questions about compatibility with Snow Leopard can expect a quick response from the HP team. After the real-time session, the Mac-connect team will continue to provide help through the Forums.
HP noted in their press release today that "HP has worked closely with Apple throughout the Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard development process, enabling customers to enjoy built-in print driver support for more than 1,300 worldwide HP peripherals out of the box – the most ever offered by HP for a new Mac OS. In addition to print driver support, HP is providing scan support for the latest HP Inkjet All-in-Ones built into the operating system."

HP cutting off support for printers for which they still sell ink seriously sucks. I had to replace several printers because of this policy. Last time I buy H-P.

This is news?
A more apt headline would be "HP NOT offering real-time support for SL users before or after 9/9."
I remember when companies made sure their products worked.

What kind of support am I going to get? I already know my printer doesn't work in SL. I know HP doesn't have a driver. I know Apple doesn't have a driver. In fact, I think most users who know that HP is offering this support already know their HP product doesn't work. So what kind of support could they possibly offer? Unless there is a working driver I don't give a flying F.

SOOOOO TRUE !!! Terrible service. Printing is part of my daily work ! This is such a shame.. Today an Apple Genius told me : ''oh, didn't hear bout this problem, you can install Windows'' WOW thx a lot ! I m really not going to invest time and money into Windows...

Just to make it clear, my model is still currently sold! The P1505. Here is what's listed as supported:
Macintosh: Mac OS X v 10.2.8, v 10.3, v 10.4 or higher;
Yeah, right. That's misleading to anyone who buys a Mac today.

What sort of world do they live in where they get congratulations for NOT following their support forums any other day of the year!?
The fact that this is news-release worthy at HP speaks more about how they regard customer support than they intended. And I will certainly keep it in mind when making future purchases.

I had issues with my HP PSC 1315 all-in-one after upgrading to Snow Leopard. Specifically, it (a) wasn't getting auto-detected by the OS, and (b) couldn't scan, and (c) couldn't print. HP didn't release new drivers, so I began troubleshooting it myself, and eventually revived it. Here's how I fixed it. (Printer was left on the entire time, but power-cycled at logical places.)
1. Deleted any printers in Sys Prefs. (DOA anyways, so cleaning it out.)
2. Dumped all the plist files relating to HP and printer in Mac HD\Users\\Library\Prefs. (Not working anyways, so cleaning it out.)
3. Installed the Optional Install, Add'l Printers from the Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD.
4. Re-installed the same HP driver set (2007) that I had installed before, and allowed the Setup Assistant to re-detect the printer after it re-installed the driver set again. It will succeed after the re-install.
5. Ran the HP configuration utility to allow it to re-callibrate the printer once it was detected.
6. Printing, scanning blissfully working again.
Hope this helps other users that ran into the same issue.

With Snow Leopard, you want to uninstall your HP drivers and software and use the drivers and software that are provided with Snow Leopard. Even for scanners and networked devices. These are more robust than anything that was provided for earlier versions of OS X.

Exactly. Works like a charm.

Why only 1 day? Why only on a limited time? And why on September 9? Why not now, and tomorrow? They know that there's an Apple event that day, so are they hoping not many people would be asking questions? (being distracted by the event)

Kind of funny they will only offer support for ONE day. I miss the old days where companies supported products for a longer time. I haven't upgraded to SL since my current HP printer works fine now and I don't want to upgrade and find out that I need to buy a new printer as well. Apparently HP and others now regard printers as total throw aways; use the for a year then buy a new one. I still have a Windows 2000 machine that my wife uses and it has an HP Laserjet 4P that has worked for quite a few years and still runs great.

"Apparently HP and others now regard printers as total throw aways"
Inkjet printers are sold mainly as vehicles to get you to buy ink. Yes, even the all-in-ones. It's the razor and blade concept. Check for generic/recycled ink cartridge sources if your printer's ink is no longer officially sold.

The official HP software for my Photosmart C4385 All-In-One does not work on Snow Leopard. I am not sure about the printing function (the built-in Snow Leopard driver may be taking care of that) but the scanner software (HP Scan Pro) does not recognize my printer as being connected.

They can start by explaining why only 3 of their many PSC printer series have scanner support now, according to Apple's list. Thankfully, mine appears to be on the list. (Waiting to upgrade to see what other stuff I may need fixed)

Funny kind of "queen-for-a-day" support program. I don't need support. I need drivers that don't strip the functions out of my multi-function machine. Currently it no longer responds to the printer's panel controls and no longer works for two-sided printing. The duplex printer module is now just a paperweight. Good thing, since I'm going to be needing twice as much paper. OfficeJet 7310xi is the hardware. No new HP software; Apple's software has these limitations. Not good.

They're not saying they're ignoring people until then, only that they will have real time response on the 9th. Which is good, because if these printers no longer work because the drivers are using deprecated frameworks, it most definitely is HP's job to fix them, not Apple's. Apple's been saying for a long time, hey, stop using these things, they will disappear soon, and most developers have been blithely ignoring them.
Everyone should consider what HP's actual plan of support of this operating system and its releases is, based on their current response, and extrapolate what level of ongoing support we will get if we buy any more HP printers.

Does anyone know what is happening with the Canon updates? I have a Canon MX 860 and after upgrading to Snow Leopard .. its only recognising the scanner, not the printer. 1hr with Apple tech support didn't help.
