CrossOver Games 8.0 released

Additionally (and perhaps we're burying the lead a little bit here), this version is completely compatible with Snow Leopard. So while you still may be banging your head against compatibility for some apps (I'm actually sort of glad now that SL was sold out at Best Buy when I went by to pick it up -- think I might just wait until the compatibility issues get ironed out), Crossover Games should work just fine.
And it of course works on both Mac and Linux, so if you have a spare 'nix box sitting around and want some Windows games running on it, there you go. Existing customers with a support entitlement can upgrade right away, the app can be bought for $40, or there's a free trial to try out as well if you'd rather do that.

I tried out version 8 last night with Left 4 Dead. It did work, but I noticed a little jumpiness to it. I was running on a 2.53GHz unibody MacBook Pro with the Nvidia 9600M GT 512MB video card active in it. I didn't mess with a lot of the settings though, so I will do some more testing to see if I can smooth things out a bit and report back...if anyone cares...

I'll wager it still doesn't work with any of the Fifa games. Which makes it pointless for me.

It's lede, not lead.

Lede is an American only spelling, and not very widely used there, lead is the more common spelling

Fair enough. We use lede at my paper, but we also do a lot of strange things.

I just tried this with Left4Dead on my early 2008 imac, and it works great! I installed steam through crossover, and then overwrote it with the steam directory from my boot camp partition (that had left4dead already downloaded and installed).
The one issue I ran into was that I can't get it to work at native resolution fullscreen - it comes up with a 1900x1168 resolution - but if I bump down to 1440x900, it runs fullscreen properly.
Yay no more boot camp for this!

The older version was surprisingly stable and ran HL2, CS:S and TF2 great.
With some time and effort you can replicate all of this with free software though, Crossover is just an implementation of WINE.
