Rumor: Could the new iPod touch be delayed?
We have already seen many case designs in various places showing a opening on the back for a possible camera, which already makes for lots of speculation. However, both sites still expect that new a iPod touch will be announced on Wednesday, but the new devices might not ship immediately after the announcement. It's still not known if this will affect possible upcoming iPod nano and iPod classic refreshes, which might also include a camera. Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long to get our hands (and fingers!) on a new iPod touch with a camera.

not happening. Sept is always about itunes and ipods. not computers. they will save that for a separate event which might happen before the holidays or perhaps not until Feb (anniversary of the last refresh)
as for the rumor, given that they waited until a week, more or less, before to announce the announcement, I can't see them doing so unless they knew they had the product wrapped and ready to go.

They can always announce it though. Isn't the point of the event to just confirm rumors? We've known about the devices that are coming (to some extent) so these just confirm what we know usually with a suprise here and there.

As an employee in a large electronics retailer, I can almost guarantee you guys that something new on the Touch and Nano front will be revealed. Sorry if you probably already knew this.

I'm just wondering why no one has thought this might be Beatles related (9-9-09), like the full remastered Beatles catalog finally released on iTunes I mean it would be fitting.

What do you mean "No one has thought it might be Beatles related..."? It seems like whenever any article is posted on any site about the event, at least a third of all comments are people saying they think it'll involve a Beatles announcement.

Ahhh.. enough already with the Beatles rumors, every-time Apple host a press conference some press or blog has a "source" saying this time it is the Beatles.
If it happens it will be great to have one of the most influential bands ever on iTunes but I have seen 5 years of press conferences with people coming up with any way of twisting the date or the invite into a Beatles related item so I will believe it when I see it and not before.

You mean like the time Apple held an event on Ringo's Gardener's birthday? That was some hot speculation.

I think that the date being the same as the release of The Beatles: Rock Band and their remastered albums is pretty significant.
That being said, people say the title of the event has to do with The Rolling Stones, so I have no idea if there is going to be a Beatles announcement. And I don't care either. I have no emotional investment in the group and don't particularly care for their music.

Wasn't the iPod touch announced and not available for a month or more, back when it was first introduced?

That is true. I remember calling my local Apple Store just about every other day trying to get a hold of one. Was truly a marvel the first time I plugged it in and started to use it. It was nice having the Touch before everyone else. My only regret was that the box art was updated with the John Lennon cover art the following January, and then the second generation came out in the fall after that. I could have used a volume rocker and speaker before, but then again, my iPhone 3G now takes care of that for me. Both are great devices either way.
It'll be interesting to see if they've been delayed or not.

It'll be nice to see the latest iPods, but like the iPhone 3GS, I feel that we're only going to see spec and capacity bumps, perhaps with lower prices, across the board. Maybe there will be camera functionalities added, maybe not. If a camera and what not is added, I could easily foresee potential iPhone customers opting for a new iPod Touch and a MiFi on Sprint or Verizon instead, considering that everything great about the iPhone would truly be on its little brother, save the 3G radio. I'd rather see the fabled tablet in some form.
I have to agree with AJ above; let's see some Beatles' on iTunes. I'll be picking up the remastered stereo box at some point, but it would be nice to see the Apples partner up for once. After all, Steve does love The Fab Four too.

They wouldn't have an event just to launch capacity upgrades. There will at least be one "major" enhancement - the camera, most likely. On top of that, expect that it will get the same treatment as the iPhone 3GS: Oleophobic glass, better graphics processor, better battery life.
I'm hoping, but not expecting, that it will come with GPS.

Noooooo! I want my new iPod now! Hurry up and fix the problem Apple!
(Or take your time. I would rather have a delay than an iPod with problems.)

Speaking of unannounced products that have been “delayed,” I’ve heard that the Google Human Teleporter that they were rumored to introduce next month is rumored to be delayed, possibly by several decades. Also, “sources” tell me the Chevy Solar Flying Car that they were rumored to be introducing next week may be canceled.

The teleporter was available last week. Unfortunately, due to a glitch it sent itself 300 years into the future where it was promptly labeled a relic and put into a museum.
Rego said 3:32AM on 9-08-2009
As far as I know, the flying car is on schedule and they are accepting preorders.

Maybe Steve Jobs fell out of his bed this morning suddenly realizing
that an old iPod Touch with a camera attached to it is just lame. He
would have to hurry to come up with something new, though, since the
iPod event is in a few days.

Is there still strong speculation that the iPod Touch will have a GPS? That is the key component for my dough.

There doesn't seem to be much talk of this Cocktail thing in the past few weeks - was it debunked somewhere? The FT in July was reporting the launch of "Cocktail" as a venture with big music companies, scheduled for September: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/0b7b66fa-7a45-11de-b86f-00144feabdc0.html
Interesting if true. Not sure about the link to the tablet, but perhaps that's an essential component in the strategy for delivering all this new 'cocktail' content. Hence the tablet would be marketed as more of an entertainment device/super iPod rather than a fancy touchscreen netbook. Kind of like how the iPod touch was launched - not as a PDA, even though that was the thing which many people immediately focused on in terms of its wider significance and potential. I'm not saying the tablet is necessarily coming tomorrow, because the consensus seems to be that it's not, but I won't be amazed if it does show up in this way and tied in to some kind of entertainment-media strategy rather than being marketed as a straight computing device.
