Apple quietly cutting iPod prices ahead of event

We've just started receiving tips that Apple is quietly cutting the price of existing iPods ahead of its planned event later today. Thus far, we've seen the following price cuts. All prices given are in USD:
  • iPod nano is now $129 for 8GB and $149 for 16GB.
  • iPod classic is now $229.
  • iPod touch is now $189 for 8GB, $249 for 16GB and $279 for 32GB.
There is no change to the price of the iPod shuffle.

These changes haven't completely gone through the site yet. As seen in the screen capture, some parts of the site still list the iPods at their old price.

Thanks to Scott and Max for the tip!

Will the iPod classic be discontinued soon with these price drops? I hope not. It's great for music fans who have too much for the Touch to hold. http://www.computersncs.com/rd_p?p=186122&t=9544&a=27068-tuaw&gift=27068

Hey Apple! What, no love for us in Euro land?

Maybe we'll return the "love" later today by buying a big fat zero from you. I bet you'll put the prices up again for us too.

Stop subsidising US prices by increasing ours!!!!!

The free iPod Touch program with a Mac should have been a dead giveaway, pun intended, for moving inventory. Gone Daddy Gone.

They've done that for quite a few years now. They give away their flagship iPod with the Macs.

Well actually, the iPod shuffle did have a price drop too. At least on the Canadian site. It is now 89.99$ (from 99.99$). I am 10$ closer to get one :D

Discounts on the current models so people who are tired of waiting can get them, and new models to come, maybe weeks later?

I'm all for the iPod touch (2nd-generation) price drop. The place I'm working forbids camera devices of any sort, so if the 3rd-gen has it, 2nd-gen is the one to get.

Ya, I was just looking at that 32gb one for $280. That's a steal compared to the other ones.

I think the new models come with a new price tag... Don't know why they would screw up such a "surprise" by doing this ahead of the event...

Because hama already screwed it up for them. Thanks to them, everyone who cares already knows what's coming, so why try to keep it a secret?
