The Apple Store is down, prepare yourselves

Happy Stevemas boys and girls! As we look forward to the 9-9-09 Apple Event starting later today, which we'll be liveblogging, the Apple Store has quietly gone quiet. Megan noted the early morning price cuts to the iPod line, a bit surprising considering the announcements scheduled for later in the day -- why not wait for the big moment?

"why not wait for the big moment?"
Why not clear out some inventory from those people on the fence before the new model? Or from the lots of people who probably know nothing about these new models coming?
Regardless, can't wait to see what comes out of this!

Yoko Ono requires a lot of maintenance to be ready for anything!

Her caterwauling was responsible for the NYC Blackout of 1977. Apple needs to be ready.

Yea I was checking it around 8:14AM, then came back to check for rumors then, BAM! Apple store is down.
The previous gen price cut doesn't make sense, but who knows it might've been a mistake. Maybe that's the new pricing for the new iPods.

I reckon the price drops earlier were an accident, Apple then though "oh cr*p". They couldn't put the price back, so just took the stores down.

They always take down the store when they add new products. The price drops likely weren't a mistake and just may have been posted too early. After the big announcement is probably when they should have posted the drops. I think they usually do that anyway.

I wonder how much money they lose by keeping the store closed for this long.

that's why they give you an option to call if you're desperate. :P but I suspect the people who *know* their adding new stuff to the store wait it out.
JB said 12:00PM on 9-09-2009
Yea, calling them just goes "oh we can't sell you anything until the site goes back up sorry"
L3 said 12:14PM on 9-09-2009
You are correct. 3M stock, however, soars whenever they publicize the Store Closed note.

I have always wondered by Apple shuts down it's store for almost a whole day sometimes when new products are announced. Can't they just activate the new pages or products without shutting down the whole store? Or do they do it just for promotion and attention on blog posts like this?

Apple Spokeswoman (aka person I called from the store/telesales team) says this is a "maintenance" update o_O
