Still doubt Apple's desire for portable gaming clout? Here's proof...
This afternoon, we received a tip from one of our readers about an awesome ad on the IGN.com website. We chased the bait and decided to check it out. We're really glad we did. What we found was the ad above. We preserved it via screencast so all of our readers could enjoy it. The video above shows exactly what you will find on IGN just in case the current ad stops running soon. It reminds us of a similar ad on Yahoo a while back.
I have been pretty skeptical about Apple's desire to take over the portable gaming market, but I can't doubt it any more. This ad is running on one of the most popular gaming sites... obviously targeting those who wouldn't really think about the iPod touch as a gaming platform. The use of the website's design is definitely something that will catch the eye of the reader... so clever, in fact, that it's nearly impossible to press the stop button. You can press it, but why would you?
Thanks to Swaghi for the tip.

@Joshua Ochs, actually it depends on what browser you're using. Safari doesn't auto play it, but Firefox does (I don't know about any other browsers).
Anything that "hijacks" my browser like that is unethical in my opinion.
This is actually the second ad IGN has ran for the iPod touch. They did a similar one back in March. This may have already been mentioned but here's the link anyway:

I'm still not convinved they should make a seperate division just for portable gaming. The Iphone can easily be converted or add on applications can be made for it.
You say batman I saw Vawncast
the same commercial is airing on TV and can be found on Apple's iPod Touch webpage(click on "Watch the TV ad" in the middle to the right.

I'd say this is what an ad *should* be. Non-distracting if I don't care about it (although perhaps a bit overlarge), and actually entertaining if I am interested.
It's also on http://music.myspace.com/

September 28 2009 at 7:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThat's a very clever ad. But, the kind of thing that makes me want to punch the creator in the nads when I'm trying to read a page. Someone should burn...
