Apple creates new iTunes Twitter accounts
Just like the Facebook pages that Apple has set up for iTunes and the iTunes Trailers Twitter account, Apple has just set up several Twitter accounts for iTunes, which cover Music, Podcasts, Movies and TV Shows. First, the Music account, twitter.com/iTunesMusic , will provide information on "new releases, pre-orders, iTunes LP, exclusive offers and more."
Second, the Podcasting account, twitter.com/iTunesPodcasts , will provide a "Podcast Episode of the Day, from iTunes Podcasting."
Next, the iTunes Movies account, twitter.com/iTunesMovies , doesn't contain a description, but does contain one tweet so far, and it looks like it will be used for Movies on the iTunes Store.
Finally, the iTunes TV account, twitter.com/iTunesTV , which contains no tweets yet, will provide "Official TV updates from the U.S. iTunes Store on Twitter."
Will these accounts make a impact on what you discover in the iTunes Store? Let us know in the comments below!

How is this different than an RSS feed? I don't see the point and it seems redundant. Of course, perhaps, at 36, I'm over the hill on the whole Twitter thing....since I'm not a rich celebrity or dumb politician!

Yeah, I can't figure out what's so great about Twitter either, myself. And both my brother in his mid 20's and sister in early 20's think Twitter is lame and wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole, while I know people in their 40's who think it's great. I think Twitter's popularity isn't really tied to age demographics unlike other things.
I've found that people seem to be really polarized into two camps - either you're a "Twitter is so awesome" person or a "Twitter is for twits" one.

i love twitter (i'm 42) and i use it every day. i think people have a hard time grasping what twitter is good for, and the the whole celebrity & kneejerk twitterhate isn't helping. for me, it's like a customizable RSS feed — but one that i can reply back to the sender if i want. this ability for feedback and conversation is awesome. so, yes, i'll use apple's twitter feed.

I see twitter as a real time news source. In the last year it has been first to break major news stories and has been the place where I heard about them. It took me a few months to really understand what it was and how it could be useful but honestly now I find it pretty invaluable. These Apple twitter accounts will be handy for discovering new releases and special offers.

What I find most interesting is that Apple seems to have created their own link-shortening service, like TinyURL or Bit.ly or the like. Tw.itunes.com isn't the shortest starting URL I've seen, but it looks like they're starting with three-character codes. I wonder, with case-sensitive alphanumeric combos, how many links will they be able to create before they have to update to four digits? Still, it brings their actual tweet content down to 115 characters.
