Apple's newest peripheral is the Magic Mouse

As rumored, Apple has just introduced a new mouse called the Magic Mouse. This mouse will bring Multi-Touch capabilities to desktop Macs for the first time, something that the iPhone has had since its release in June 2007 and the MacBook Air since it was released in February 2008.

It loses the scroll ball found on the Mighty Mouse, but adds support for scrolling gestures. This mouse is also wireless, using Bluetooth, and has a four month battery life. This mouse is available for $69 in late October, and requires Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 or later.

It does not require 10.6.2...

System Requirements:

Drilling down, the mouse requires OSX 10.6.2. Software update soon folks!

What a disappointment.
Multi-touch? You mean Two-Touch. It sounds like it can only detect 2 fingers. Why not give me a few more options (like the additional programmable buttons on my Microsoft Intellimouse)?

I can scroll with any mouse. I can do primary and secondary clicks with any mouse. C'mon Apple, do something useful with the multi-touch capability. How about a 'back' button? I have to swipe with two fingers to go back? My current mouse has a button for that, right by my thumb. How about a few more options in the preferences panel?

Their video says I can zoom my screen with Option and a swipe. I can already do that with Option and scroll.

Fail.

And that wireless keyboard - it's the same as the one I already bought. How about a wireless model with keypad? Or a trackpad?

Fail.

As long as it right-clicks better than the Mighty Mouse, I'll probably get one. My Logitech MX1000 is dying a slow painful death.

Just ordered 2! Was waiting anxiously for this long overdue update. Now if only Apple hadn't replaced my old problematic 24" iMac with a brand new 24" 3 weeks ago (groan)

LOL, typical apple rebelling against two buttons! :)

So with all the "We do batteries better" stuff, why didn't they put one of the new rechargable batteries in the mouse? They could have stuck a mini USB port on the front which could be used to charge it or upsell you to a charging craddle.

Maybe I'm all alone on this one, but I'd rather have the glassy trackpad from my MBP in a little wireless pad that replaces the mouse all together. It seems so weird to me to have that nice of a sensor that you have to drag around. I mean, it's still an optical mouse, which will go bananas on wood grains and be useless on glass tables/tabletops.

Cool, this will be very interesting - now, when can we please have scrolling 'with momentum' for the MB(P) touchpads?

Oops, Kagan already said that. I so agree, however.
