Apple's newest peripheral is the Magic Mouse

It loses the scroll ball found on the Mighty Mouse, but adds support for scrolling gestures. This mouse is also wireless, using Bluetooth, and has a four month battery life. This mouse is available for $69 in late October, and requires Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 or later.

I'd hit that.
Seriously, they had me at multitouch, but I can't be happier to know that scroll nipple thing is gone.

Apple takes the famous 'one button' mac mouse to its logical extreme - no buttons. Hurrah!

Dissapointment because it looks baby, and baby mice kill my hand. Heres to hoping its the same size as the mighty mouse.

Are the batteries replaceable or rechargeable? What happens once those four months are up?

Says it comes with two AA batteries, so they'll be replaceable.

You return the mouse to Apple who will charge you $59 and shipping to replace the battery. Or you can buy a new one.

Just saw that the mighty mouse was renamed to "Apple Mouse" It's on the bottom of the Magic Mouse page. :) Can't wait to get 2 of these. No more scroll ball to get gunked up! :D

I like this Magic Mouse a lot, but it looks like it loses all the Exposé features, which really sucks.

On new Macs, you have 4 finger up swipe to get to the desktop via Expose, and 4 finger down swipe to get all applications via Expose. If those gestures aren't supported on this mouse, I'd be really surprised. If they are supported, I think that's a lot better of an option than the original "Apple Mouse".

Just watched the video. I guess you're right. I was expecting all the same functionality the trackpad has. From the looks of the options in System Preferences, this new mouse is just a modest revision to the old mouse. It's not nearly as cool or exciting as I expected. Oh, well. I'll stick with my Microsoft mouse for now.

Nevermind, after watching the video it looks decent size. I redact my previous statement! Excite!!

I'm really curious about the batteries. Does it use a AA battery? Do you plug it in to charge via USB? How long does it last on a charge? None of this seems to be easily found on the Apple store. Overall though this was an amazing little surprise from Apple today- great refresh of the product line!

looks like people are saying it comes with AA batteries, I guess I'm just missing that.
YodaMac said 12:43PM on 10-20-2009
It's almost like setting your iPhone down next to your computer and using that to control it. It just needs a laser tracker built into it.
Hmmm... maybe the next version. :)

Do any of the stores have the new mouse in stock yet?

Took one for the team and just ordered. Can it be the first mouse Apple has made in this decade to be not good, but great? Ok, I'll settle for good.
