The other new products that Apple released today
Surprisingly, the Mac mini, Magic Mouse, iMac, MacBook, AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule updates are not the only things Apple updated today. Several other products were updated today, which include:- Apple Wireless Keyboard: This keyboard, the subject of several update rumors, did get revised today. It now only requires 2 AA batteries, down from 3 in the previous model.
- Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter: This adapter now has a aluminum connector, much like the one found on the 45 watt adapter for the MacBook Air; it should be more durable for use.
- VESA Mount Adapter Kit: This model for the 24 inch Apple LCD Cinema Display and the previous 24 inch iMac now supports the new 27 inch iMac.
Are you going to enjoy the improvements in these products? Let us know in the comments below!

Honestly, all fanboyism aside, I think Apple hit it out the park today with all these updates. I think they improved on existing products where it was needed and I think the Magic Mouse just shows their commitment to innovating on the little things. There wasn't anything that came out today I felt was a misstep. OK the new white Macbooks are looking a little OLPC to me but I can't explain why.

The only thing missing was an aluminium universal dock. One day.....
Galley said 10:10AM on 10-21-2009
@Steve: They already make an aluminum universal dock. It's called a Griffin Simplifi.

That's been available for some time now. Since 13th of Sept in fact.

I wonder about the 2 batteries in the renewed keyboard. I have the 3 bat. version and find them to be empty rather quickly.
O yeah, the new remote looks sexy too

Buy rechargeable batteries to use. They last longer than anything. I think mine are so used that they only charge to 60% full but they keep my keyboard going for at least a month and a half.

Eneloops. You can get a 'power pack' from costco or amazon for about 30$ that has 8 AA, 2 AAA, a 4 cell charger, 4 "C" shells and 4 "D" shells. I used to hate rechargables, but Eneloops feel like standard disposable alkalines.

Actually I had no problem finding the right batteries, just saying the keyboard uses a lot of juice compared to other keyboards in my opinion. Maybe I type to much on it LOL
cheers

I love the look of the new magic mouse and keyboard as well but it really irks me that they are only wireless. They would be a must buy if they had wired versions. Heck I would even pay for the wired versions if I had to, but I'm on a budget and having to buy new batteries even every 4 or 6 months (or whatever) is not good for my wallet. I think I'll be holding off on a new mac anytime soon now as a result. Very sad about wireless-only being included with the new imacs.

no, you can order a new iMac with wired keyboard, too

They need to make the keyboard and mouse with internal rechargeable batteries... maybe like those pads you set things on and it keeps them charged.

You have to be joking. If a couple double A's a year break the bank, you shouldn't be using a Mac in the first place.
The real problem here is the continued lack of a number pad on the wireless keyboard.

Or at least it would be nice if Apple used rechargeable batteries in the mouse and kbd. You could hook 'em up (or whatever) at night and by morning they'd be ready to go. You know, just like an iPhone or iPod. I just need them to be wireless while using them, not while I'm away.
jollyllama said 4:22AM on 10-21-2009
Um, I don't know how to break it to you, but you're paying too much for batteries. ProTip: don't buy name brand batteries for non-critical uses that can be replaced any time (ie, everything but survival gear and safety equipment). Amazon has a box of 100 AAs for about $25, or a quarter each. If you're replacing 2 keyboard batteries and 2 mouse batteries every four months, that's 12 batteries a year. Buy the box at Amazon and this is costing you $3 per year. Even if we figure that these batteries are crap and last half as long as Duracells or whatever, that's still only $6 a year. I guarantee that if you're in the market for a computer, you can afford that without blinking.

No love for rechargeable double As? I've found them to have a higher capacity than any nonrechargeables.

omg, are you kidding? They finally are putting the MBA/appledisplay aluminum magsafe on the actual power bricks and they're not doing it for the 15" MBP power adapters? Boooooo

Yeah, sucks for MBP users! Luckily I love the 13" screen! WOOT!!
Seriously, this made my day!!! I need to get a power adapter replaced under warranty soon, I'll make sure to wait a little bit! YES!!! FINALLY APPLE!
welchb said 2:00AM on 10-21-2009
I've been askin' for this for a couple years. I hate the fact they pop off so easily when the laptop is, you know, on your lap. heh. It's sort of funny that my MBP's power cord is the most securely fastened when it's stationary on my desk (hooked to my display.)
Sigh. Oh well maybe they'll update the big power supplies soon now that they've done the 60w ones.
