Reports coming in of DST-related Snow Leopard issues

The workaround is apparently simple (if it hasn't already resolved itself after the cutover); just turn off the menu bar clock in System Preferences for a moment, and the problem should go away. On the other hand, the philosophical question of whether a system version that was billed as having no major new user-facing features outside of improved performance and stability should have arrived with so many fascinating quirks... well, good thing we got an extra hour of sleep last night.

Thanks to Gordian and everyone who sent this in.

Had the same issue. Fortunately found the Apple Support thread minutes into iStat's CPU monitor going fully opaque, turned off Date & Time, and turned it back on in the morning.

Why all the arrogance in the comments? I can understand the Windows folk gloating after all the grief we've given them for Vista, but the hubris that blinds some Apple users to the litany of Snow Leopard's problems is astounding.

After risking my laptop to overheating because of a Status Menu clock and tearing my hair out from random Airport speed drops, this staunch Apple user has just cause to be furious with the company.

No CPU usage spikes during the DST/EST switch apparent here in the Research Triangle Park on a group of 12 iMacs running Snow Leopard and two Mac Pros running Snow Leopard Server. Sounds like another non-issue.

That's why DST switches over early in the morning, you're supposed to be asleep :/

I didnt really notice the bug. But I did hear my iMac going crazy at around the time of the switchover. Except, I heard the Disc drive spinning like crazy. It was weird.

If you were awake and working on your Mac at that time and you were working on stuff that could have waited for a proper hour..... You failed at life. Next time, sleep through DST changes like most people or *gasp* reboot right after the time change and quit whining!

Yeah… I'm sure all of these people who feel this is unacceptable have never… made a minor mistake that might cause someone a little inconvenience and hassle. They apparently live in a perfect world where an hour of interruption in the middle of the night is life changing… You have options guys… if its really all that unacceptable go try out the competition with Microsoft's OS…. i'm sure it won't take you too long to come back…

Technology is ever changing and for the same reason not always perfect… if you want to have the newest operating system it also comes with the understanding that there are going to be a few hiccups…. but in my book its worth it. Even leopard is the leading edge of technology… but if you want to be on the bleeding edge… you can't cry foul when something like this happens.

Ha, didn't even notice a hickup. I got Team Fortress 2 for 2.50 last night and played that from 9pm to the new 3am with narry a skipped frame. I wonder if running a windows game full screen in crossover is another fix. We'll see next year.

I am amazed at the number of people who are not only awake at 2 AM, but are apparently staring at the CPU meter on their computer...

I didn't notice the CPU spike until my lap was on fire.
