Mac OS X 10.6.2 is on the prowl, plus security update for 10.5 users
Update: As noted by our commenters and cross-confirmed with OS News, the 10.6.2 update appears to drop support for the hackintosh-centric Atom processor. This was spotted in earlier builds, but it was not clear whether the support for the netbook CPU would be in or out in the final configuration. We've been expecting Mac OS X 10.6.2 for a while now, especially since Apple initially said that the new Magic Mouse would require it, but it has just arrived.
Alongside the OS update for Snow Leopard users, Security Update 2009-006 is out for users of Leopard. Use Software Update to make sure that you get the right update for your computer.
Bug fixes are reported for AFP Client, Adaptive Firewall, Apache (2), Apache Portable Runtime, ATS, Certificate Assistant, CoreGraphics, CoreMedia (2), CUPS, Dictionary, DirectoryService, Disk Images, Dovecot, Event Monitor, fetchmail, file, FTP Server, Help Viewer, ImageIO, International Components for Unicode, IOKit, IPSec, Kernel, Launch Services, libsecurity, libxml, Login Window, OpenLDAP (2), OpenSSH, PHP, QuickDraw Manager, QuickLook, QuickTime (4), FreeRADIUS, Screen Sharing, Spotlight, and Subversion.

After updating I can no longer open the "Event Planner" template (or documents based on it) in Numbers.

I had problems with the ATI drivers, especially related to waking up after having had a second screen connected. These problems got worse with SL but were reported with Apple.
WiFi problems which I had in the past (Leopard), are gone with SL. Same regarding freezes after switching locations.
I do like Snow Leopard.
Great, gave me the first Kernel Panic within 2 minutes after updating. If my system does not become stable soon, I'll switch back to Windows... :/ I paid the price premium to get away from unstable systems, and at the moment Win 7 seems like the more stable system - had no issues whatsoever there.
November 10 2009 at 4:57 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI am experiencing a black frame around windows when i use CMD + 4 -Space when taking screenshots.
See example here http://grab.by/qS0
It seems to be a gradient error of some kind ..
Here's hoping that it fixes the problem where I plug my MBP into my TV and its black and white until I reboot...
November 10 2009 at 1:01 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyanyone else run into the slash-circle upon reboot after applying the update? I had to hold down option to select the startup disk and this worked, but I then had to go into system prefs and select it before reboots would boot properly
(it had me worried there for a minute)
Mac Mini (Intel graphics) started randomly (and without warning) shutting down and rebooting after Snow Lep installed a few weeks ago. At first thought it might be a hardware issue, but given remarks from Apple on this new update's documentation about "unexpected logouts" on some Macs running 10.6.1, I'm hopeful this update has fixed the issue. Eight hours in, so far so good.
Anyone else having this issue?
I thought the whole point of Apple's closed hardware architecture was that there would not be these types of issues. I see here the same problems that Windows users have when running a service pack. Nothing different, same kind of compatibility issues but at least with Windows the breadth of hardware is so vast that you can excuse *some* glitches based on the number of variables. What is Apple's excuse?
November 10 2009 at 9:17 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAfter the update, my Time Machine backups take way longer to complete. Seems to some issue with it.
November 10 2009 at 8:48 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have noticed that too. But I have also noticed that when I enter time machine under 10.6.2 that I see the full history of backups. Under 10.6.1, I would enter time machine and only have direct access to the most recent backup. I would have to exit Time Machine then re-enter to see the full history.
November 10 2009 at 8:59 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Reply@joel: i didn't have that problem with my 10.6.1. Time machine backups were faster & without any issues. But after the update, it gotten slow.
