I just got the update message for safari 4.0.4 this morning on my windows 7 machine and installed it. After completion, it rebooted as it said it would, but when I launch it, I get an entry point error. Next step was to deinstall safari and install from scratch from the apple web site. Installation completed, but still get the same error about an invalid entry point. Looks like safari ate itself. Back to Chrome.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

10.5.7 isn't supported, please check your blog post again! It needs 10.5.8.

This update wildly improves Flash performance under 64bit Safari in Snow Leopard. Pretty much back to where it used to be instead of dramatically worse.

Still can't update on my Mac Mini because they haven't sorted out the display resolution issue created in 10.5.7 and certain flatscreens - so am stuck on 10.5.6!

This is getting old.

Did they change the keyboard shortcut for Top Sites? I swear it was Command+Shift+1 before...

I knew I wasn't losing my mind when Command+Shift+1 wasn't working!

Why the change?

1password users keep on eye on http://www.switchersblog.com/

They're usually pretty quick on updates for it :)

I didn't notice Safari locking up until I installed the 10.6.2 patch, but then, it seemed like every other time I'd open multiple tabs in Safari, it would crash (spinning beachball). The thing that really torqued me was that I thought Safari was designed such that one tab could crash while the others would still be responsive and working...I've yet to see that animal around the zoo

Anyway, hopefully this fixes the problem...

Programs only ask for your password when they're changing something in the System folder (or something else with elevated rights). If it's in the System folder and you want to delete it manually, OS X will ask for your password. Try it!

Safari is probably just updating the app itself- no elevated permissions necessary.

It also updated some frameworks as well as the WebKit framework.

So the restart is necessary :)

Really annoyed that when I got the update to 10.6.2, my browser preference was switched without permission from Firefox to Safari. That's the sort of thing Microsoft got in trouble for, I thought.

This didn't happen to me. I use Firefox exclusively and have since about .4 before I switched to OS X at 2. Never had this problem before.
